"Can you elaborate on how your 1kw with side lighting was set up?"
Very simple setup, I had a 4.5'x4.5' garden with the 1000W HID light in the middle, I put 3x30w florescent lizard UVB tubes along the outside and got a 160W spotlight. I kept the florescents above the light line of the main light, sometimes I put them on the side walls to hit the lower parts of the plants. They just weren't efficient enough with the UVB, florescents had to be too close, the spot was too hot. I'm going to work more with UVB but first I want to experiment with making my own LED lights for veg.

"I was even wondering what moving the bulb just 6 in ea way or in a circle might do for the same vertical grow. Think it would help?"
Absolutely, changing the angle of the light will repeatedly hit parts of the plants that would not get light with a stationary source. Reduced heat stress of plants directly under the light, direct light for plants that are normally on the edge of the grow, fight economies of diminishing returns for light absorption. As well, if you've had a 4.5' x 4.5' (or so) garden for you 1000W light change your thinking to 3.5' wide and 10' long (or there abouts). More area but in a long rectangle that is narrow enough that outside plants will get lots of light.
You could get your bulb down between the plants by hanging it vertically instead of horizontally.
Have you thought of an scrog setup? I find the short plants easier to tend, the harvest is better, better average potency, faster finish. You could try 1 huge plant on a screen to try it, see if its easier or better for you in any way. Just another option for growing that you might find fun.
Best of luck, I hope you drop into the thread now and again! Talk about anything you like, so long as it's about bud it's fun!
