Credit Cards

I am a college student, and I am starting to look to establish credit. I will be moving out the end of the summer, so I will need something.

As for my finances, I am good with money. I keep track of all my money spent in a journal ledger type thing by my bedside every night.

What credit cards should I be looking for? And where would I go about getting one at?

Credit cards are the devil mon! Go to your bank or credit union. You may have to start small, maybe even with a secured line of credit. Be careful with the credit cards. They make it real easy for you to get in over your head but not easy to understand what you're getting into. Best of luck..........:blsmoke:

look around for the best APR. you can try to get something for 0% for 6 mo, Citi used to have a card for students with this promo rate. there is nothing inherently bad about using a credit card, i mean ultra loose credit has helped build the facade called the american economy today. many cards allow you to build points or get cash back so if you use the card, pay off the balance in full you actually are getting a discount on what you purchase. leverage is a powerful tool, too powerful to be harnessed by much of man. get in the habit of paying your card off in full though, or you'll end up like Andy DeFrain on Shawshank Redemption.

I've never had a credit card in 38years! but now that I finally want to start building a credit history (I have my own business, so a good credit rating is important)
As I have 0 credit history, getting credit was impossible! so, I ordered a few things from mail order, paid off on interest free installments and now get letters from credit card companies!
I'd say dont get a CC at all, but if you do, pay off your bill IN FULL at the end of every month and get into a good habit.

It doesn't neccesarily lower your credit score, but it can...

There's a lot of factors that go into your credit score... how long you've had established credit, how many credit cards you have, what are the limits on them, do you pay your payment each month (even the minimum), how much is available on the card as opposed to the balance, good or bad credit inquiries, and so much more...

If you go for a few months without paying balance on cards in full (even if just minimum payment), your score may fall a bit but not much.... Now if you keep a high balance on them for a year and only pay the minimum payment, then you're looking at some potential issues...

Credit Cards are the devil, but they can be used correctly and in turn give you a good credit score which is a mega bonus in the grand scheme of things...

Online banking has made dealing with my credit card very easy. I use my credit card to pay for all of the things I normally would use my debit card for like gas, groceries, blah blah blah. Then I just log in a couple days later and transfer the funds from my checking account to pay off the credit card. Frequently visiting and paying off my credit card also ensures I don't get carried away.

Credit cards aren't evil or difficult to use at all. Just don't be a retard and use it to buy a bunch of shit you normally wouldn't be buying. It's that simple.

Used properly they can save you thousands in interest on car and mortgage loans. Abuse them and you'll find yourself quickly heading towards bankruptcy.

each person is different . if you get a credit card but DONT spend any more on it than you can afford to pay off at the end of the month..do not carry a ballance. it will build credit this way and you will stay out of trouble and establish credit. same if you were to ever buy a car..PAY IT OFF AS SOON AS YOU CAN..home the same thing.
a old man when i was young asked me a question..he said do you know what the most expensive thing you will ever purchase in your life will be? i said a house..he said nope....INTEREST..interest is money you spend that purchases you nothing..and is money gone forever never to be productive for you again..if you are poor ..or middle class you cant afford to ever be stupid with your money..if you dont understand money someone else will..and guess who will have the money?
there is no such thing as a free ride.you make your own luck.and look out for number 1
