Heat from 400 watt HPS

So this is my first post, and I have some questions.

I plan on doing a closet grow with a 400w HPS, but I live in Florida and it is almost always hot as balls. I can't decide if I need to get a sealed hood and use a fan/duct system connected to it to cool the bulb, or if a regular reflector would work. I'm guessing sealed, since it's a smallish space and a warm climate, but since it costs more I figured I might as well ask.

This'll be my second grow, and my first using HPS. This forum is awesome and useful as fuck, but I couldn't find an answer to this specific question.

if you want to keep the temp under 80 go with the cool tube plus u get more out of you'r money with the cool tube you can get that light closer to you'r plants

A 400 watt HPS really doesnt get that hot but if you live in an area thats normal temperature is very warm you dont want to be adding any heat to your grow room. I would go with the fan cooled hood setup and then at times when its not too warm you can switch the fan off for warmth as well.

Hmmm, well I'm running a 400 watt HPS but then again it was negative degrees out a few days ago. Super HPS is very efficient and doesn't put out too much heat.

It will also depend on if you leave your closet door open during the period your light is on (I do). Then, I have no temperature problems. If I close it the temperature can easily climb 3-5 degrees.

I guess my conclusion is that, if you have AC and a 400 watt super HPS you will have no problems at all with heat.

Not realy i live in Fl with the ac on 75 and i leave the to door's open on my grow room when i got my one 400W HPS on, i also have a exaust fan in there and i have 12ft celling's. when my light's on it makes the room my grow closet is in at least 5 degrees hotter IMO cool tube well worth the money. all im saying is i wish i had the loot for a cool tube when i was seting up and i will definitly buy a cool tube for my next grow

Air cooled hood are the only way to go I am using a 600w hps with a air cooled hood and my plant grow and touch the glass and never have been burned. Good luck

Thanks for the input. I think I'm definitely gonna go with the cool tube. I'm having already having heat problems with my current grow just using CFL. Stupid Florida.

Attach your cool tube with a 400cfm fan and the temps will only raise about 2 - 4 degrees above your ambient temperatures. I live in the south and it gets hot as hell too. You can see how my setup in my grow journal: https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/281269-white-widow-kushberry-400w.html
