Cannabutter 3rd try, help and suggestions welcomed!

All,

I am on my third try as I write this for making cannabutter:fire:.....

First try the butter burned my fault.....

Second try I used an ounce of green all ground up and 5 sticks of butter. I melted the butter and then added the green...let it simmer for 30 mins and strained....did not catch a buzz at all...

Now this third time I have a crock pot with water, 4 sticks of butter melted and another ounce of green. I am going to do 2 hours on high and 2 hours on low, stirring every 15-20 mins...then I will strain and chill and scoop whatever solidifies....

SO! My question is this....will this third try work? Any and all comments welcomed.

Thanks,

My tolerance for chemi-bud is high which is what this green is i used to make this batch of butter. I am done and its in the fridge. I just took 2 tablespoons of the butter on top. It is now 12:06AM. I am hoping this will get me a buzz...:?:

tw3n I think you are using too much butter, I use just enough liquid butter to cover the powdered bud. We have a fixed amount of cannaboids in an ounce, if we spread that over 4 sticks of butter rather than 1/2 stick the butter will be weak. When I make a small batch of butter for brownies I use 1g - 1.5g per serving of whatever I'm making and the butter/oil needed for the recipie. So for a tray of brownies I'll start with 1/2 cup of butter and will end up with 1/3 cup after pressing and refining; and 9 grams of bone dry powdered bud flower for 9 brownies.

As well, are you using a coffee bean grinder to chop the bud into a powder or grinding with a bud grinder? Grind the bud as fine as you can get it. This will help with extraction of the cannaboids, getting the hot butter to as many surfaces of the trichome as possible.

If you're using a large crock pot for simmering that is too big for your amount of butter - put the butter in a pyrex measuring cup, fill the crock pot with enough hot water to be above the butter level in the pyrex cup, use the measuring cup as your cooking pot. Use tin foil for a lid to keep water vapor out. I use a 2 cup (500 ml) measuring cup with smaller batches so I have enough room to use a 1 beater hand mixer (just don't put in the other beater) every 5 or 10 minutes. The electric mixer speeds extraction and will help with potency.

.

Check out Dr Jay's Black Out Bud Butter recipe, I've gotten my most potent butter using it.

.

The most potent butter is left in the bud ball after you squeeze it, I've increased my recovered butter by 25% by pressing it. Here's an easy press to make at home for less than $20, you can buy a professional model online for $80.

.

After you make the butter you can improve the taste by refining. You will loose some butter every time it touches a surface but the potency per volume will stay the same. You can cut down on butter lose with careful cleaning of tools. I suggest eating a batch of BOBB brownies before refining your first batch of butter to make sure you're getting the potency you want, refine only after you get the first two steps to the point you want.

Good luck and have fun!

keep it simple.

the bio-availability (I think?) of butter is 6:1 (6 grams of cannabinoids: 1 gram of butter)

so if you imagine this, you really only need 1 stick, and you can potentially cook up to 1 pound of bud into it.

if you really want to up the potency, cook some hash into the butter (with a little bit of water to prevent the butter from burning.

when using lots more weed, use more butter. just make sure you don't use too much water or you will have a harder time collecting your butter.

so essentially, butter can absorb so much that you could make pills out of it. good luck.

What about using male plants ? I have three male plants I yanked out yesterday could these make a decnt butter?

possibly. I don't know about the solubility of the pollen in butter.

otherwise if there's a significant amount of cannabinoids in the male plant than I suppose you could.

Ol hippie use your hand scope to check the leaves for trichomes. If they are there check the color too, unless you flower the males out for pollen the trichs will likely be clear. You can get some butter off male plants but usually there are so few trichomes it's not worth it.

I've done some honey oil runs on male leaves, pretty rancid. I smoked some male flowers once, I was curled on the floor sick for half an hour. I just chuck my male plants now.

Thanks Hobbes, I'll take a peep at them, probably just chuck em , unless they would make a real strong butter I'd rather not add the extra colesterol and fat!! Thanks for the reply..

Thanks all, well the butter did work, i gave it to a friend to try and it buzzed him...I will try the pyrex in the crock pot recipe...I am using a bud grinder and not a coffee bean grinder.

This all has been really helpful. Thank you. Once I get a solid recipe I will post.
