Starting to wonder why i even use a tent.

I mean the reflective walls are nice but what else am i really gaining? My big thing when buying the tent was controlling smell but if i get a powerful enough fan and stick it close to the bedroom door i should be good.


For the tent users out there, what are the advantages?

when they say no light leaks what they are really referring to is the fact that the intensity of light diminishes exponentially with distance so the close walls of a tent give you the most effective reflectivity of your light energy.... i think

they are also assuming you don't intend to fill this room to the walls... i think


so there's the light reflecting.. and bob smith was about right with controlled environment.. but to be honest you could seal a room off too and control that too... it's really a matter of scale



so the real question is.... are you wanting us to tell you it's okay for you to move out of your tent and just start going big?
because if that's what you want i bet we can work that out


EDIT: I just read that and realized I totally psychoanalyzed this situation sorta... WORD2000!

unless you are running CO2 or you live in an apartment you don't need a tent. but if you are only growing a small number of plants the smaller area in a tent would be easier to regulate.

No light leaks means there is no light leaking to the outside world.

I use multiple tents because I can flower on different cycles in the same room, I can also work in the room where the tents are and no light will get in the tent during their dark period. Lot easier to control environment and a lot easier to hide your grow from visitors. The only downside is the cost and heat.

for me the big advantage is it is portable. If you decide you want to grow somewhere else you can just move the tent rather than ripping down everything in a room or closet and having to construct the whole thing again.

small amounts of light getting in is not really a big deal.. They need low light conditions to flower.. not no light. I've seen the moon so bright it left a shadow... plants wouldn't flower in that if they needed true darkness

having different flowering cycles is definitely a plus though

you've also got to remember that outdoors flowering starts earlier and goes on for longer, its not a sudden 12/12 change. Complete blackness is necessary. Small amounts of light can revert your plant back to vegetative, even something as small as a red LED from a tv can screw your grow, not always but it's happened to people before and why take risks like that with your babies.

actually they need no light. The moonlight and the outside light dont count because of how the light is presented that it is actually pitch black to plants. Has to do with intensity, this is true I have read many a thread with the science. They did mean light getting in. Their can be light leaks and your plant wont die but it will produce less buds. I am sure someone has done flowers with small light leeks. Not advised tho. I for one have had some pretty fucked up light timer accidents and no hermies. No light is best. But heh.

If you have the tent and it properly contains our grow, as in you dont want bigger then keep the tent! It will contain all your spills for one. Also it is contained with a clear way to exhaust heat from the immediate area of plants and cool it which is a lot harder with a hole room. Trust me that I can run a bulb with no hood in a tent and use a 4 or 8 in inline to exhaust fine but in a closet or bathroom the pockets of heat are killer. Plus c02 in a tent is easer to get to your plants. Anyway,

in the albfuct thread he has a good tent set up. Not really a tent just some 2x4s nailed to the cieling and panda film hanging down to the floor.

I for one love that double floor. Saved my ass plenty of times. It is leak proof!

this is contradictory... moon doesn't count because it isn't intense enough... but a tiny amount of light somehow is intense enough

that doesn't add up

a reflection of the SUN that creates a SHADOW isn't intense enough (the moon)... but a mm gap of a fluorescent tube is too bright... that's what you're telling me

The reason i considered buying a tent was to keep my plants isolated. Clean up is easy, and long term hydroponic growing and higher humidity can cause mold and mildew problems in the house long after your done growing. Mom is a Realtor in Cali and this has been a problem with many foreclosed houses, damage from high humidity and heat grow rooms. Even if you own the house, you would not want to run into these problems. Not do say it cant be done right, but to me the convenience of wiping down a tent after each grow with no repercussions to my home is relaxing.
