but american did want what he wanted, so he lied to us and we swallowed hook line and sinker
Freudian slip, there?
I was heavily involved in the election campaign last year and I can tell you that people voted for healthcare reform, action on pollution and emissions and more focus on afghanistan. Just because you don't want it and didn't vote for it, doesn't mean that this is true of Americans as a whole. In fact, if the election results are to be believed (...and yes, election are what matters, not gallup polls) then this is exactly what the majority of american voters want. Unlike his predecessor, his decisions as president are pretty consistent with what he campaigned on....
Also, I know this was a year ago and it's probably difficult to remember for all you stoners, but we avoided a global financial meltdown and are actually seeing good indications of an economic recovery. Granted, he didn't campaign on staving off a massive recession that was caused by bad policies during the bush years, but I think he still deserves a B for getting that one done. And please spare me the republican talking points about how barney frank and congress caused the recession. It simply isn't true and the facts are out there.
It makes me sad that the republican party and the conservative movement in general has degenerated into this obama-hating machine rather than articulating their own agenda and selling it to the american people. You guys need to find yourselves a new william buckley or ronald reagan, not a sarah palin or a joe the plumber. People like myself, who feel they have no choice but to support democrats, might actually be receptive. Right now, I coudln't vote for a republican because all I hear from them is that they don't like gays, immigrants, the environment or pot, and nothing about how they're going to fix the mess they made.
