i've been reading up on it. anyone have this same problem? the pain comes from above your buttcheek and shoots down the back of your leg, the side of your leg, and then eventually the front of it? sometimes it gets real bad, and I can't walk at all. This has been happening for the past 2 and a half weeks.

i used to crack my back a LOT, and now i can't really, at all. any way I twist too much and i feel a pain in my very lowest back muscles on my right side, where it meets my buttcheek :-(

anyone experience this? :-(

Go to a doc or chiropractor or massage therapist. Your nerve is getting pinched between gluteus max and gluteus medias, if thats what is wrong and you don't have a bulging disc in your lower back.. Take it easy and try to relax.. Aspirin will lower the swelling Good luck JR

i take soma and naproxen, along with daily stretching. it helps "relieve" the pain but it is still a constant. it hurts 24/7.
i'm an L5S1, they have support groups, ... http://www.backpain-guide.com/Chapter_Fig_folders/Ch07_Symptoms_Folder/Sciatica.html
Thank you for the link fdd. im scheduling an appointment, i believe im an L5S1.. ill let the doc decide. im glad some other people know what im talking about. the pain is almost constant.. i just forget about it sometimes i guess.

lots of situps cured mine - took a month or two - i started out doing 3 sets of 20 and eventually got up to 135 reps with a weight (forget how much weight, but it was a lot)

i was amazed, haven't had that problem in a long time

interesting.. i used to do a lot of sit-ups. i might try some sit-ups before i go in for a diagnosis. i don't want to have to take any kind of tylenol or soma.. unless absolutely necessary, you know?

I have it as well. Same thing for me stretching and crunches. Losing 30+ pounds helped the most I think. I haven't had a problem in over 2 years. I avoid meds 99% of the time. Good luck.

Hey man, I feel your pain, mine comes and goes it seems, the best way I cope with the lightning going up and down my legs is (I know you said you don't like pills) asperin and robacsicent, and SLOWLY doing streches. Man I get it sooooo bad sometimes I'm stuck hunched over, can't straightin up or bend down, just stuck.
Can you get a medicinal card for this?

chiropractor did absolutely nothing for my sciatic pain. he only caused my wallet to lose weight!! i just finished up about 6 weeks with a physical therapist which was actually pretty successful. they showed me a lot of good exercises and stretches to ease the pain. i also found that the major part of my pain was coming from the piriformis muscle which i had never even heard of before. i am in pain 24/7 which totally sucks!! it's depressing not being able to be as active as you were when you were younger especially now that i've got kids who love to play outdoors. i wouldn't know what to do if it weren't for my tens unit and my bud. wish i lived in a med state.

I went to the chiropractor. He cracked my back 3 different ways, and also took x-rays. I have another appointment tomorrow.

It felt WONDERFUL. it's not that I didnt take his word for it, when he said he was going to crack me like no one ever has. i just didn't think chiropractors used so much force. it felt really, really nice. The muscle loosener massager the nurse used on me before that helped a lot.

but about my sciatica, he did identify it as L5S1 as well as L4 and L5. :-|

took x-rays, they are trying to get me aligned, and then I hope I will be better. He said it is unfortunate that im young and have pain there, but fortunate that i came as early as I did, because it is very much more treatable.

thanks for the help everyone, fdd, anc and others. i appreciate the support

I know there are people suffering with far, far worse on this board. my support goes out to them as well, not to be blind the the fact that i'm healthy as an ox compared to some people

they put me in a tube for an MRI. i'm claustrophobic. it scares me to think i ever have to do that again. they left me in there for almost half an hour. just sitting here thinking about it makes my chest heavy.
