are cooltubes worth haveing . i know they work well for keeping the heat down but how much light do u lose becuse of the glass i was thinking about making my own i have 2 400 watters but im not sure if it is worth losing the lumens as it is only 84 degrees in my room now with out them.seems to me that u cant move them around as easily when u need to get more light to certian areas.

I think you would be better off just increasing your whole room exhaust to get the temp down. ( just a little )
The expense, inconvenience and all that is very true, but I don't think the glass has much effect on light transmission.
I think it would only be worth the trouble if you were running 600s or 1000s. Or perhaps just one 400.

cool tubes are terrible at light distribution, nothing directs the light.

like the guy said originally, look at the walls and how much light is being wasted.

indeed, I am saving for a nice inline carbon filter and then a very nice parabolic wing reflector or glass lensed air cooled hood, cannot decide yet. cooltube is sweet because it is so good at cooling but it is kind of a waste of light... better than no tube!

I think I have just about as much reflector with mine as it started with. For my setup the cooltube is the way to go. It's much easier to cool with the tube,
