When to Flip the Switch to 12/12

Hey Guys I have been on this grow since Nov.11... I'm in no Hurry with the grow . Just want to make sure i get the most out of it. Looking for some advice on How long would be optimal for vegging before i flip the switch to flower. I know to wait til the plant matures, what exactly do i look for to determine how mature the plant is . Would one way to determine the maturity be The texture and thickness of the main stem looking more bark like ... I don't really know any light shed on it would greatly be appreicated Heres some pics of the plants have more in my journal these pics are day before yesterday (recent)

Really, you can flower at anytime you want. Some people don't even vegetate and just flower straight from seedlings. The longer you veg, the bigger your plant, and the more medicine you will harvest.

But I've read on this site that the most optimum time to induce flowering is when the nodes begin to lose symmetry. Starting out the nodes will usually grow like a Y..

When they become uneven like the crude picture above, then you know that it's the most optimal time concerning the plant's individual genetics. The plants in your picture are most likely very far from unsymmetrical nodes. I recently saw some Sativas that grew 3 feet out of soil before the nodes started interchanging.


With all that said and done: As far as indoor growing goes, it really just depends on your system. Obviously letting the plant grow 10ft high like it might in the wild isn't ideal for inside operations. Flower/Prune/Top/LST as needed based upon the system you are working with.

Awesome dude! Yeah, it's also best to experiment with your FIMing and Toping. Not all strains produce more when topped. I've found it's really dependent on the genetics. Some strains have info about them online, but usually you just have to experiment with a couple plants.

I've seen topped Burmese Kushes flower small in comparison to their untopped sisters. While Skunk 1s tend to prefer topping...

It comes down to the artificial lighting indoors. Generally your 1000W HPS won't penetrate past the first 10" of foliage. So you top, to get a shorter plant with more budsights receiving light in those first 10"..... I'm a big advocate of side lighting. Let your babies grow huge and salvage lower buds by hanging some lights at lower nodes.

But really the main reasons I would top would be to preserve space (indoors), or to keep the plant hidden (outdoors guerilla)

most people wait till its at least a foot tall. if its mature you will see preflowers. the more you veggie the more you get int he long run
