100 watt hps.

I need to know some general knowledge on these , I heard they work good for small grows (I will never need 1000 watts or be capable of utilizing it to its potential)


how much does a 100watt hps cost? (trying to draw a basic figure on cost so i dont overpay , preaty tight budget. if anyone has any links to safe sites to buy from that would be cool)

how much does a 100 watt ballast cost?
how small of an area do these work best in?
how small is TO small (heat issues?) Do 100 watts make excessive heat?

if i use a 100 watt hps bulb , that means i need a 100 watt ballast right? (very confused if you cant tell)

any help is appreciated

wouldn't waste time on a 100 watt hps. If you need something that low go cfl. The HO-high output cfls are best. They come in 2 and 4 ft. super for veg. and can flower. Go min. 400 watt going into the hps. Great for up to 3 x 3 ft. area and with an aircooled hood cool to the hand touch..Think it's about 30-50 bucks a month for a 400 watt set up on electiric bills when you include the fans....

Im using cfls right now , they worked amazing vegging , im very happy with the results so far and im in my first week of flowering and so far im still happy but my only concern is light pentration ... cfls just arent cutting it and 1 x 100 watt hps is 9500 lumens compaired to 200 watts of cfls thats only pumping out about 4000...

i think the hps will benefit me more then the cfls would.

Go with the 600 if you can handle the heat. You will get denser buds. If not just get the 150w above as its a complete light

I so would go with a higher wattage but i dont wanna rack up the electric bill and heat will def be an issue. but that first link is more then likely what im going to buy ..not a bad price at all (didnt look at shipping yet lol)

i grow for personal use so im not worried about pulling in to much and i should have mentioned i will only be flowering 1 - 2 plants at a single time. gonna be perpetual 1-2 plants a month if all goes well.

No question 400 watt is the way to go for consistent solid bud. you can grow 2 to 6 at a time if you crame em in there. Lumatek will do you right. look at the journals...specially the 400 watt club. If you have been using cfls you will not be happy with the different results unless you take it up a notch to the 400 watt hps. The lumatek is dual mh/hps so if you want to start with the 400 watt mh you will get even better veg results. Get your needs together and call htg. Mention your shopping your needs for best price and combined shipping charges. Saved me hundreds off the already low list price. They dont do email questions well. kind of old school I guess but phone is best for ordering. The owner is good with suggestions when you give him your room size and needs. good luck

Thats what im hoping for , This plant was flowered for about 2 weeks then revegged after it showed sex (it just would NOT show preflowers in veg at all for me..was on 8 weeks veg still no preflowers lol so thats why i flowered it)

took a few clones , and now im reflowering it under the cfls today is exactly 1 week and 3 days since i hit the lights to 12 / 12 and my tops are all already starting to form (nice ammount of white hairs) and i really just wanna see these buds explode and get fat ... cfl is good i dont condemn it but im using 200 watts already on cfls when i could just use 150 watts of hps and like 2 cfls for side lighting or something..

its not that im unhappy with the results , i ahvent even seen the results yet :P im seeing the affect of poor light penetration though and tons of good potential going to waste but i just dont have the cash for a 400 watter and the heat will wreck me i basicly just want more lumens per my watt and a light source with better light pentration that doesnt need to be 1 inch away from my plants and still give me decent results. (i dont need pro results , just good enough u kno :P)

yo brotha - if you check out that thread that i posted the link to - where he's growing the super lemon haze - you'll see how he fixes the problem of light penetration without having to spend so much money on a HPS light.

sure buying an HPS light would be the best way - but if you can't afford a good one - and you still want a larger yield - this is what i would do.



he has only cfl lights - but they are surrounding his whole plant. they are all around the bottom, middle section, and top of the plant. that way there is even light distribution and all of the budding areas receive light.

i hope you understand what i'm trying to explain because this will help you increase your yield greatly - i mean this kid got almost a half pound off of one plant using this method.

ya i need to upgrade my grow space b4 i woul dbe able to put lights all round my plant like that but thats damn amazing.

that is nice cfl work. Lots of effort to constantly move those lights. Be carefull it is bordering on fire hazard with a lot of lights/wiring around. I say spend the extra couple hundred dollars to do it right. sell your buddy an oz. when done to pay for the upgrade costs.

haha ya that's just someone i know's thread up here on rollitup. not my set up. i don't think i'd want to deal with all of those cfl's. but then again if you don't have a lot of money - that's the way to go.

but nah he had other pictures of all of the cables and everything and he was actually able to keep it very very neat. there was no fire hazard there - that's for sure.

what do you guys think about this 250watt tent kit?? Its pretty appealing to me, fair price, I see alot of people like htg... so, I'm not sure if I should upgrade anything:
-I know I definitely want an air cooled reflector tube..
- and probably the soil to ocean forest, but what is so better about digital ballasts and do you think its worth it to upgrade to digital? I would go 400w, but I really wanna fly under the radar, and don't want crazy energy spikes.

- idk what do you gents think of it?
