I have a question for my fellow indoor donkey dick, giant bud growin' friends. I know that in this day and age it's not all about the size or beauty of the nugz anymore. Everyone wants to grow for the yield and grow as many nugz as possible. I love giant buds and I'm not going to stop!
I have a question though...has anyone else ever noticed this...
I have found that the key to the giant buds is really in the roots. The larger the root system and obviously the stronger the lights the bigger the buds. So in the interest of this I have found that if I keep my plants pruned really nicely in veg. Not like a bush, a tiny short little bonsai tree that I constantly cut the tops off of to keep it 18" approx. If I keep it to this size and veg it for an extra 3 weeks or so (from the time it orginally hits 18") but keep it to that size when I flower it I get MUCH larger buds. I have attributed this to the increased root system and overall maturity of the plant.
So for example I use a 4x4 space to grow. I fill the space with 8 plants. If I get each plant to 18" and flower them then I get pretty good sized buds, a decent yeild and more of what I would call the "garden variety" grow. If I veg them to 18" and then keep pruning them down to 18" weekly and then flower it after 3-4 extra weeks I can get donky dicks all over!
I noticed this once when flowering out mothers and I was VERY impressed with how well they had done compared to the clones that came from them. Then it hit me, I put them in a bed of hydroton and the root mass was fucking enormous and this apparently was able to feed these bitches and keep growth REALLY vigorous.
So my question to all you donkey dick growers is....Have you found that mothers make big as cola's? I went back on my most recent grow and I flowered clones that I didn't do the extra pruning and growing and sure enough it went back to garden variety buds.
Now granted, I realize that the extra 3-4 weeks of veg time offsets the yield increase, but man it's way more fun to grow giant buds.
