Happy New Year Everyone!
My New Year is not so happy because I was planning on going out and having tons of fun with my friends. But instead, I ended up severely injuring my neck. So here I sit, bowl in hand, hoping to have fun even if I can't go out. But it is happy for me in a different way; 4 out of 7 of my White Russians sprouted today!!
This is my first grow journal, but the 6th crop I've started from seed/clone. This is also my first time growing White Russian, so I'm really excited about that. After talking to a couple people on RIU, we've decided it's most likely the Serious Seeds strain, but I don't know for sure.
A little back-story:
These seeds were given to me by someone who's in the middle of foreclosure/moving. So he won't be able to grow for a minimum of 6 more months. He gave me the seeds to grow for him. Anyhow, he ordered the seeds from a site that only carries the Serious Seeds and Sagarmatha versions of White Russian, but he ordered White Satin and received White Russian instead (the piece of plastic they shipped it in only said White Russian--no breeder name). When I checked the website, even though they carried Sagarmatha, they didn't have it listed. So I'm hoping these are SS and not some old Sagarmatha's that used to be listed and now they're getting rid of whenever they're out of the similar strain that was ordered. If someone has some more insight to this, or a better opinion, please let me know. I'm very curious to find out exactly what I have.
My setup:
1 closet; 3 sections. Total closet size is 11L x 3W x 9H. Veg section is roughly 3.5L x 3W x 6H. Flower section is about 4.5L x 3W x 9H. The rest of the closet is my storage area.
The veg room uses a 250w MH. I got a new fan for air circulation today, which I haven't setup yet because of my injury. And I'm currently trying to get a better exhausting fan, but that will come later.
The flowering room has a 400w MH with the same type of exhaust fan as the veg room. I'll be temporarily upgrading to HPS, but I can't remember if it's 400w or 600w. It belongs to the person who gave me the seeds, but he hid the light because of the realtor coming through. So he has to find it before giving it to me. I'm not as worried about this room with heat because I keep the closet door open. That may have to change now because I'm not sure of the odor level of the White Russian.
I will be making the DIY carbon air filter that's featured/recommended to help with that, and I'll be trying to find a small portable A/C to reduce the temp in the closet (which now averages 85f with all the doors open)
My main focus now is switching the soil. I was using MG Moisture Control before at the recommendation of someone (not on this site) a while back. After reading some more on this forum, I've found a retailer that sells Fox Farm and will be switching to that as soon as my injury heals and the place opens back up after the holiday. Right now, I'm nute-free because of a bad experience on my first grow. Now that I've got the hang of growing, I will introduce nutes again with the Russians using the Fox Farm nutes.
As far as the pix below. Some pix are of my setup. The plants, you will notice, I name. They are named in alphabetical order from whichever sprouts first. Since I've named a bunch of seedlings before with my White Satins, the first one that sprouted with the Russians was Godiva, then Hazel, then Iris, then Jem. I have 3 more seeds germinating still. Anyway, I keep a "family tree" of sorts for the ladies. I only give girl-names and when I clone from the mothers, I give the clones a girl's name starting with the same letter as the mom, e.g. Betsy was the "B" seed. The clones she yielded were Beverly, Beth, Becky, Bonnie, Badu, Bree, and many more. Anyhow, I just do this because it's easier for me to note which problems I had with a specific plant and it's also helped me weed out the seeds/clones with the inferior phenos within the strain.
Anything else you want to know, please ask. Comments and concerns are encouraged and appreciated. Feel free to use their names when commenting since that will probably be easier on all of us.
Pix attached are:
1. The new babies 4 of 7 (these aren't fem, so we'll see how many last)
2. All 7
3. Godiva
4. Iris
5. Hazel
6. Jem
7. I noticed Godiva (who actually sprouted very late last night) looks a bit stretchy, so I took this pic to show how far the light is. 9.5in from the top of the cup to the bottom of the light
8. 400w MH in Flowering
9. 250w MH in Veg (my ex hooked this up. Does it look dangerous to anyone else, or is it just me?)
10. 1 of 2 similar exhaust fans
11. View of flowering and veg rooms from the storage side of the closet
*note*
All the big plants in the pix are the white satin, which won't be included in this journal.
