Lol. I get roughly £5 per year extra to spend by taking my own bags....Jeff stop fucking moaning and get a better job!!! You dont give a damn about the poor, just yourself. If you can afford to grow pot you can afford a bloody bag or 2!!! Pathetic...
you mean we should just succumb to the govt and freely hand our money over cuz they dont like it? why, are they smarter than you? do they know better how to spend your money?

in the words of rage against the machine

"FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TOLD ME"

ps i have a good job and a successful company. i dont need more money to pay for their stupid bags. but i know some people who are pretty poor and it isnt really helping them by raising the cost of their food. but hey, if you dont have a problem charging poor people more for groceries, keep voting for the same goobs that are in there now.

if i remember correctly, werent the korrean grocery store owners beat up, politically and physically, for charging too much for groceries? correct me if i am wrong, but it was mostly in poor black neighborhoods.

so i gather, its terrible for koreans to raise poor black peoples cost of groceries but its okay for your govt to do it?

see "you guys" (libs in case your wondering) are the ones with a bit of hypocracy in your eye....

See, you're missing the point. A nickel here and a nickel there adds up bro. When they are wanting to add to the gasoling tax, excise tax, wheel tax, and now they want to tax soda and sugary beverages. Where does it end? If they keep assaulting you from all sides with these taxes how long will it be before you are bumped down on the economic ladder? My wages haven't kept pace with inflation and all the new taxes I'm paying. I literally have more going out each month than I have coming in............and I don't have a bunch of fancy toys or a vacation home. Just a working class joe. Most of the people I know are in this same boat.
The government says it's in order to curtail the use of the plastic bags, blah, blah, blah. It's just some bullshit they use to justify getting more of my hard earned $$.:cuss:

Do you not understand that its not about revenue gain....? Without the government what would you do in your world of anarchy? Well at least you could build thick walls to protect yourself from the world!

woo, you stumbled on something positive here but you probably dont realize it.

if the govt wants to cut back on plastic bags, how about offering a tax refund for anyone bringing their own bag instead of charging people who cant afford it? doesnt that make more sense than faking like you are "concerned" about the environment. they could give 2 shits about the environment, they want the money raised.

and to do this in one of the poorest communities in the country is totally outrageous. and it seems like WE, THE HEARTLESS CONSERVATIVES, ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS.

you are just blind to that and think they actually care about the poor dolphins choking....they dont. they see $ signs and thats the truth.

If it's not about revenue then what are they gonna do with the money? I could give a f*** about revenue gain. What I do care about is my hard earned money evaporating into thin air. Are people's lives going to be improved in any way by this? And if you say "The dolphins blowholes will be safe now"..............

You are paying through the nose for gas and yet you defend taxation. I lived in Italy bro, I know all about high gas prices. What constitutes a good tax as opposed to stupid bullshit taxes (like this one)?

no i havent stumbled on anything, it happens via the supermarket. I take my bag and get 1 pence each time i use it. This is paid for by government tax reductions to the supermarkets. It is the same thing. I get the money in vouchers tax free. I can spend them on any item except cigs and fuel.

The fact that they want to reduce bag usage is to stop landfill that costs money. I never said they were doing it for the environment alone...Unfortunately we have laws that are decided in Europe on matters such as this. We (England) get huge fines for going over landfill quotas. Thousands of tons of bags a year go into holes in the ground, that is not good whatever your political beliefs imo.

Totally agree. And I take my own bags to the grocery store as well BTW. A lot of places where I live sort the garbage. They pull out absolutely anything that can be recycled and either compost or burn most of the remaining stuff for electricity. :peace:

you have to recycle here in certain areas. My inlaws have 5 different coloured bins for each type of 'rubbish'.

Ya gotta do it here too but there are certain things that people aren't aware can be recycled. And of course stuff gets missed. It goes to the transfer center where it's sorted before going to another facility where it's burned or composted. The remainder, which isn't much, is carted off to the landfill.

In my area you can only recycle glass, metal and some plastics and paper. The councils will only collect things they can make money from. I take other items to the recycling center, i have to use fuel to do so though! I am just about to buy a diesel car to run on biofuel, 15p per litre instead of £1.15. Im not doing it for the enviroment though!lol

Just go and collect vegetable oil from the local eateries and make your own fuel.;)

Ha! Yer alright Woo. I don't agree with everything you say but yer alright.:eyesmoke:
fer an irishman

i totally agree woo. the landfill thing an all, i am down witht he struggle. but if you have been to dc or watched a council meeting on tv or seen some of the politicians from that area (marion barry comes to mind) these fuckers could care less about the environment. dollars? they are very concerned...environment....not so much.

i just think there are way better ways to address the landfill/pollution stuff than slappin a tax on the people of that town. seriously, DC is serious poor. reward people for doing right, dont punish people for doing what everyone esle in the world is doing.

Money is what things come down to. If it didn't cost so much to clean up the mess there would be no reason to do this, and at that point if they slapped a tax on it I would be right there with you. But if this helps to get us off of having to wrap everything in plastic it is a good step to cutting future costs.

If by charging 5 cents a bag, vs the costs of cleaning up the bags which not only go into the ground, but also storm drains that back up and cause property damage, but what happens when they break down (not totally, plastic sucks this way). Plastic breaks down into very tiny almost dust like particles that get into everything we need, water, animals, the chemicals can get into the plants, ect. So we are all ingesting the plastic chemicals from time to time.

It costs more to recycle those bags than it does to make them so in the end it is better to just come up with a new way to take home groceries/all the other crap that we stuff into them.

So instead of just banning them, the 5 cents allows for more money to go to the clean up efforts, and hopefully more to help us get away from all this plastic we consume.

Think about how much plastic waste we have. Do we really need a pair of scissors to come in about 3x larger impossible to open up plastic packaging?

And if they are poor they can get a free canvas bag. So the people that cannot afford it are looked after.

So really what is the big deal?
