Im betting not long enough on the flush.

Not long enough drying.

not long enough curing.

7 days flushing
7 days hanging and drying
14+ days burping the pot in jars.

Indeed. Whatta cow!

so do you have any photos of this hayed bud you speak of?
I've tried to get the right amount of drying time+ curing time correct.

Like I mentioned above:

7 days flushing, 7 days hanging and drying and 14+ days burping the pot in jars, has been working for me. Mostly popcorn size buds though.
My much larger colas might take more dry time, but I hear that two weeks curing is the way to go.

good luck

Question about flushing?

I know what is meant by flushing and have done so, twice in the last 3 weeks. Problem I have is that I used Miracle Grow soil with nuts already added. The bag said "nutrients for 9 months"; so am I going to have this "hay" problem even with the flushing
Pretty sure dude meant leeching not flushing, alot of people think of them as the same in your situation they are not. I missed burping one jar for one day about 4-5 days into cure and it went moldy, they were bigger top then I was used to and learned a little on that one.

the hay/grassy flavor would be due to chlorophyl not having
a chance to escape while drying.

Chlorophyl only escapes from the plant along with moisture
that leaves the plant while drying. But the Chlorophyl
only escapes at a certain rate, so if you dry your buds too
fast, chlorophyl will be trapped in the bud.

That is why leaving the plant fully intact and leaving the
fan leaves and other large leaves on the plant is beneficial,
it prolongs the drying process allowing the chlorophyls/carotenes
to escape.

It is also important to keep a proper humidity, 40-50% is the
perfect drying humidity, good luck happy smokes.

i dont know if i believe if curing it actually will assist in this problem. however, if you dont dry it long enough, and then place them into jars, the moisture in the buds will leave the inner bud/stem toward the outter bud. if you open your jars and your once dry buds are feeling softer and a little bit wet, open your lids.. this is the beginning of curing. if you dont open your jars enough, or if your bud is too wet once placing in jars, or your bud is too dry, your buds will have grassy smell.

when you dont open your jars enough if you dry perfect, the moisture and chlorophyl smell will be stuck in the jars caushing a hay smell.
if your buds are too wet, the buds will absorb the chlorophyl smell when in jars.
if your buds are too dry before putting into jars, the bud will not have enough essential oils in it to give you the aroma you want.

you want your buds to be at about 15-20% moisture before curing. this roughly takes about 50% of your weight or more. the outter shelling of your bud should be crispy enough to have leaves just break off, if you brush them. the stem should pop or break for the most part, but as long as your burp your jars enough and dont forget about them for even one day, it can be ok if they are lil more wet than you want. just not too wet. if that makes sense.

hope this helps.
