Giuliani: No terror attacks in U.S. under Bush

Gotta love the republican version of reality..............

WASHINGTON - Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani set off a tempest about terrorism Friday with his claim that America "had no domestic attacks" under President George W. Bush.

Giuliani somehow neglected to mention the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks as he was contrasting President Barack Obama's handling of terrorism with that of Bush in light of the failed Christmas Day attempt to blow up a Detroit-bound flight. The Sept. 11 attacks toppled New York's World Trade Center, killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania and earned Giuliani accolades as "America's mayor."

The Republican said of Obama on ABC's "Good Morning America" that "what he should be doing is following the right things that Bush did."

While saying he believes Obama "turned the corner" on understanding the nature of terrorism when he publicly declared the U.S. at war, Giuliani added that Obama has plenty of room to improve on terrorism.

"We had no domestic attacks under Bush," Giuliani said. "We've had one under Obama."

Waves of protest

That statement set off waves of protest in the blogosphere. And it echoed a recent claim by former Bush press secretary Dana Perino. Republican strategist Mary Matalin also recently said the Bush administration "inherited the most tragic attack on our soil in our nation's history," implying that the 9/11 attacks resulted from mistakes by the Clinton administration.

Bush replaced Clinton in the White House on Jan. 20, 2001, or almost eight months before the al-Qaida sponsored attacks.

When Giuliani was questioned later Friday about his statement, he explained to CNN's Wolf Blitzer that he misspoke.

"I usually say we had no domestic attacks, no major domestic attack under President Bush since Sept. 11," he said. He said after all the warnings of more attacks that came immediately after Sept. 11, many were surprised that this country avoided another major terrorist attack.

Giuliani said: "I did omit the words 'since Sept. 11.' I apologize for that."

A point echoed by Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and some dumb blonde woman on Bill O'Reilly's show whom i can't remember.

Typical Republican move not to let the facts get in the way of politicizing our national security. Even Giullianis back peddling claim that there were "no domestic terror attacks since 9/11" is flat out WRONG! Richard Reid the shoe bomber, the Anthrax attacks, the LAX shooting of two Isralis, im sure had the DC sniper event happened under the current administration the right wing would quickly blame that on Obama as well. The pundits who echoed such an idiotic claim are also showing how confident they are their loyal followers will never bother to check for facts.

Bush gave the "terrorists" easy targets by sending more troops to the middle east.
This saved the "terrorists" the trouble of having to attack Americans in the USA

Question.
How many Americans have been killed by Islamic extremists since the wars have begun?
Answer
Many.

The OP bashes republicans, but fails to see the folly of democrats.
Another victim of the left-right paradigm.
Poor soul.

Obama - go ahead - try to find a lie
The republicans busted Obama's balls for waiting 72 hours after the failed Detroit bombing. Yet it took Bush 6 days to say anything about it. Not to mention probably the worst national disaster to ever happen to the USA hurricane katrina. Did he even give shit about New Orleans.

Guiliani is correct ... and isn't that what set off the firestorm, from the "left wingnuts"?

The truth hurts.

Again correctly observed, the Clinton administration DID bring this down on all of us. the track record and time lines are real.

You never project weakness to an enemy. Obama has been doing it since taking office. There are bound to be repercussions.

One now wonders what mess is piling up, waiting for the next President?

Don't think this is over ... they are going to keep coming at us. It is their mission, their goal. No appeasement will work. No resolution will have any meaning to them.

So far Obama looks like a Bambi president. He's only making us less safe.

This whole thread speaks to the impossibility of tying 9/11 to Bush. Even without the failures of the Clinton admin that allowed 9/11 to unfold, Bush had been in office less than 8 months. Obama has now had a year and "he" had the benefit of following 7 years of a firm policy (which the dems fought all the way).

Besides, trying to concoct a spin in which Obama has been tough on national security is such glaring bs, it only calls attention to his failure.

BEN-VENISTE: Isn't it a fact, Dr. Rice, that the August 6 PDB warned against possible attacks in this country? And I ask you whether you recall the title of that PDB?

RICE: I believe the title was, "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States."

Yep, it was Clintons fault that Bush ignored all warnings and spent more time vacationing his first 8 months before 9/11 than any other president in US history. If you still want to argue that it was Clintons fault maybe distracting him and putting the focus of the nation over a blow job wasnt the smartest thing for republicans. I really would like to know just one good thing republicans have done for this country in the past 20 years.

Guiliani said no terrorist attacks happened under president Bush...

Explain to me how he's correct again?

Or are you so dense that you can't even admit a mistake, even after Guiliani himself has admitted it?

That speaks volumes CrackerJax.

Name the terrorist attack please? Do you think that someone as sharp as Guiliani who was AT ground zero, was referencing that? He OBVIOUSLY meant AFTER 9/11 Bush kept us safe... and yes, he did.

If not for a malfunction in a fuse, that plane was a goner on Xmas.... that's a failure right there. Fort Hood? Failure.... the list grows ...

Projecting weakness, both by Clinton & Obama got/is going to get Americans killed.

Wake up to the folly of appeasement.

And if not for Richard Reids feet sweating profusely an American Airlines jet may have been blown out of the sky in December of 2001, who was president then? Who was the man in charge during the anthrax killings? Anyone that believes one president keeps us safer than another has to be mildly retarded. Any one of us could walk down tonight and fuck with the water supply, blow up a rail road track in the desert, put a bomb in a mall trash can, whatever. Are you seriously this ignorant??

Just the facts ... maam.

The facts don't bode well for Clinton or Obama. Bush fares much better. he gets an "A" for recognizing the extent of the threat. Both Clinton & Obama get failing grades in this area.

The first thing needed to defeat an opponent trying to kill you, is to take them seriously.

Again, Clinton & Obama fail in this regard. We already paid for Clinton. What will the cost of Obama be? Unknown, but it won't be minor.

There is a reason why the republicans made a huge deal on Clinton's blowjob. Thats the only real shit they have on him.

You are straight delusional. Bush created more terrorists by invading Iraq and pushing his own agenda. If he is on any list it's going to be on "Top 3 worst US presidents"

I would not consider fort hood a terrorist attack, that is like saying Columbine was a terrorist attack or the random postal worker who shoots up the post office.

There have been no successful terrorist attacks in the US since Obama became president.

Lets list Bush's... Anthrax, 9/11

Not to mention all the other fuck ups Bush's precidency was involved in. DC sniper, shoe bomber, start a war under false pretenses. Not to mention not doing shit for days after Katrina hit.

Grow a brain or get your hatred of Obama. Bush was a terrible president. Dick Cheny was an evil mastermind behind it all. And they are part of the reason our country is in the shitter is in right now.

He said that he misspoke. He meant to say that there were no domestic terror attacks after 9/11 during the Bush admin. Case closed. Why this is even an issue is beyond me.
