Final stages...

Hi there,

Am new to the site, so thanks for all the info which has been very useful.

I have been growing my first plant for about 6/7 weeks now (see pic) in a pot in my garden just outside Bangkok. The weather is pretty cool for this time of year, but I would imagine that it's till about a 12/12 ratio of darkness to sunlight.

As this is my first plant, I am a bit worried that I'll make a mess of it and am wondering if (a) what I've been doing so far is correct, and (b) what I should do to make sure it is ready for harvest.

Right now, it's in a pot with compost. Originally, I had three plants sprout from an initial 10 seeds, but the others died at different stages probably because the pot was too small to accommodate them all. The pot is 9 inches in diameter, and the plant has now reached a height of 19 inches from the top of the soil to the tip of the stem at its highest point.

I water it about every 2 days, and beyond that don't really do anything else other than having put a thin stake up the spine of the plant to keep it steady when a wind blows in.

I want to know how I can tell if it's a female or male, and when that might be? Also, can the male be smoked like the female or is that usually a crap smoke? And is there anything that I should've done but haven't? I heard that 90 days is a typical time when the plant can be harvested - is that true?

Any suggestions would be grateful at this stage, as I'm not exactly Mr. Johnny Greenfingers or the most adept horticulturalist in the world, merely a Ph.D Writing student and lecturer here in Thailand.

All the best

hi mate and welcome.. first of you can not smoke a male plant.. well you can if you want a nice big head ake.. secondly with out sounding funny do a bit more reading dont rush into things.. your plant looks streched and a bit skinny/lanky this is because its reaching for light...

if you got to the newbie central forum on here, there is a video in there i find it a very very good video, there are a few bits he does not explane to well but over all you will learn alot, ive learned alot from watching this, from starting the seed to i-d-ing the sex of a plant to the finish product i hope it also can help you... are you useing any nutes and stuff like that or have you just put it out to grow.. anyway good luck with it mate hope it works out for ya

that plant does help to decorate tthe patio though. dont you agree with plants for the sake of haveing a plant out by the front door just makes things seem more inviting right?

not that you do not have an idea, but you will be surprised of what you could learn about there. I would recommend widows grow and most frequently asked questions. gl on your grow and take care of the stretching. PEACE!

I'm also going to suggest reading. one question i will answer is the 90 day one, yes, you can. that is 4 weeks of vegging, under 18 to 24 hours of light, and then 60 days under 12 hours of light and 12 of dark. your plant is definitly stretched bad which i think is wierd for outside unless it's shaded. you won't be able to tell sex until the plant fuller matures (6-8 weeks of vegging), or until you induce flowering.. 12 hours light 12 dark.. it should show in 2 weeks.. give or take(none of these timing are exact). check your sunrise/sunfall times.. you cant think it's 12 hours, you need to know.

I did a search on google using the following: sunrise sunfall times Thailand and got a load of gobbledygook back. Anyone know where I could find this info out?

cheers

Leafwrapper,

thanks for your post.

'man those stems r pathetic. The stake will keep them from getting thicker.'

If I remove the stake now the things will just keel over (and ptrobably die) Any suggestions?
