LA Woman (first grow)

Hello guys. I finally have got everything set up for my first grow. I am tired of paying so much for cannabis, so I just want to grow a bit of my own.

I got a free LA Woman female seed from Attitude, so I figured I'd sprout the free seed first in case I screwed anything up, so I'd still have my other seeds as backup.

This is a stealth grow as I do not wish my roommates to know (even though this is a legal CO grow)!

So, my seedling is 1 week old today and she is already growing fast. I have her on a 21/3 light schedule.

Here are pics of my stealth set-up:

The weekling
My set-up from the front
My set-up from underneath the desk

Feel free to post comments or suggestions, as I'm new at this. I might need something to reduce the scent once she starts getting bigger. Thanks for your input guys!

Be thinking of a way to tell your roommates or find another place to grow. It'll out grow that small space pretty quick if the light is sufficient. Also keep in mind that cannabis will need a longer "dark" cycle to develop properly after a couple weeks growth. If you see the growth slow or change try an 18/6 cycle.
Welcome to supplying your own needs. :weed: slabhead

I am planning on using LST (with the wire method and fimming) in order to keep the plant within the space during veg.

Also, thank you for the info! I was wondering about this last night. Maybe after another two weeks or so I should drop the light to 18/6. I wanted her to start with a spurt, though!

I have a few questions about this grow for anyone who might be knowledgeable and happen to see this. These questions relate to an article I read in the December edition of Kush Colorado Magazine about music, radio waves, and plant growth. (The article is on page 60 of the magazine, so it's kind of a pain to get to with the flash player, but you can check it out. EDIT: I figured it out. Lol. If you click on the fourth "dot" at the bottom of the flash player it is the first page.)

To summarize, the article states that plants respond best to sound waves between 125-250 hertz and that sounds below 50 hertz seem to actually destroy the plants.

My three questions based upon this are:

1) Do the plants respond to music that is not played from the radio? IE, if I am playing a heavy metal CD, will this upset my plant?

2) Well... my stereo has an FM radio receptor *wire* that is not an antenna. I currently have it hanging down in the plant chamber, and I want to play a classical station constantly to encourage plant growth. The problem is, the classical station in my area has very poor reception. Mainly this is because my room is in the basement and my house is right by a forest. Is there any way I can IMPROVE radio reception so that I don't get a fuzzy classical station?

AND finally,

3) Has anyone done their own experiments with plants and radio waves / music?

Never heard of music destroying ur plants, if anything they will enjoy the tunes

Do 18/6 now and realize that you will most likely draw suspicion from your roomies. Lights, smell, heat, you checking on them every 5 minutes etc... ooh did I say smell?

I also have that single LA Woman seed and am on my first grow. It is going to dry for about 12 more hours then in the jar to cure. I sampled a small bud from the bottom that was a little dryer than the rest and was very impressed with the taste, especially since it hasn't even cured yet. Nice giggly buzz too. Can't wait to taste it after it cures for a couple weeks! Also, this plant grew way bigger than the other plants I grew and had huge fan leaves. You will have to keep her in check if you are trying to be stealth. You will have a pretty hard time with that I think IMHO.

Again, like I said this is my first grow, and one of the things I learned is to take better records! I think it was about 8-9 weeks or so for flowering. This was a beautiful plant and it finished sooner than the Aurora seeds I got from Attitudes, but those plants are looking great too and are just about ready. I will try to get you some pictures today.

Mate, the last thing you need to be thinking about right now is music for your plants... There are so many other things you need right now... And sadly you are setting yourself up for your first failure... That plant has no ventilation, it needs air, to get to it you have to dismantle your desk, what if your roommates come in when you are checking it..? :-(

If your roommates don't know about it, then don't do it.. Preparation is the key here, and if you don't have your own space to do it, its very risky...

I stand corrected, it actually only flowered for about 7 weeks. Here is a picture of it from a couple of weeks ago.

It has a ClipStick two-speed 10" slim fan that is clipped on to the back side of the desk (26 inches above the ground) and blows through the CFL onto the plant.

I'll see if I can't get some better pics from the top.

I actually have been prepping for this grow for about a month in order to make sure I have all the proper basic knowledge and tools.

That's why I'm looking into the additional stuff now. After all this work, I don't want to screw up the plant by listening to the wrong music!

Edit: And to get to it, I don't have to dismantle the desk, in fact I only have to move the monitor to the side on the stand it is on in order to water the plant. The top of the grow space is currently open to the rest of the room, but I know I will have to close this off to prevent light leaks for flower.

I know it is hard to tell from the pictures, but that particle board on the back side of my desk is NOT part of my desk. I bought the particle board and cut it myself with a saw (learned for next time--that sucks) to keep the plant within a boxed area instead of just out in the open behind my desk. So, in order to dismantle the grow, I just have to pull those two particle board slabs out from the back of my desk.

Edit 2: My roommates don't live in the same room as me and are usually nice enough to knock on my room door before coming in first. My primary concern about this grow is the smell during flower; but I have a humidifier in my room (bought it for the grow--dry Colorado air) that has a place for a "scent pad" that is supposed to be pretty strong.

Hey guys. I went out of town for two days and I came back and she is looking great! Big and happy :bigjoint:

I got some new pics. This is 11 days since I planted her (I planted the seed directly in the pot, no pre-germination)

Also, some people were commenting on how impossible/ inconvenient my set-up is, so allow me to post a few more pics to explain thoroughly.

This is how I have to turn my monitor to water her. I water from the top.

This is the set-up behind my monitor when it is to the side. As you can see, I currently am just using a jacket to cover the light coming out from the top, but I realize that I will need to close off all light leaks on the bottom and top before flower. The fan there moves side-to side, so I can move it out of the way for watering.

Here is how big she is today!

And here is how I move the bulb out of the chamber so I can water her without risk of electroshock.

Hope that explains it a bit more.

When I start flower, I plan on closing off the top with some more particle board, closing off the light leaks on the bottom, and cutting a vent in the top and getting a ventilation tube to circulate the air out. I want to use some sort of insulation/ scent remover at the end of the tube to help remove the scent even more.

Also, it's not like I don't occasionally smoke in my room and I can chalk it up to that... But as I already know, it's my risk to take. :leaf:

I might not have made the noob mistake of not having a fan, but I might make other noob mistakes, so I appreciate whatever readers I have out there. Thanks guys! :-P

Hello all. She is currently at 15 days (from ungerminated seed) and getting very bushy.

Over the weekend, I did some thinking...and I am considering converting a small plastic dresser that I've had for a while into another stealth space. That way I would take clones from the mother plant and flower them out in the other place, keeping the mom in behind my desk.

I still need to read up some more stuff about cloning cause I don't want to kill clones if I attempt this... how old must a mother plant be before you can clone her? And do think this is a good idea of having a separate space to flower in?

I'm getting ahead of myself. Here she is...

I clone mine right before I switch to 12/12. Be prepared for it though. It can be a pain in the ass, there are a million ways to do it out there, but if it was easy, everyone would do it. Also, make sure you know the sex before you clone so as you don't waste your time on men. HA!

Well, it's supposed to be a feminized seed I believe -- unless Attitude was inaccurate. But that's another reason I want to take clones... to begin to flower a clone even BEFORE flowering the mom so I can make sure the mom is female.
