Is this cost effective for synthesis of LSD 25? I'm planning on spending a year studying with the eventual aim of synthesising acid. My education in organic chemistry is around that of an American high school student. Just trying to get the best info I can.

Zoklet has a rather large thread about sensible ways to synthesize LSD, ergotamine tartrate from pharmies I do believe fell into this category So methinks it is quite possible, but if you had to ask this question, you will not be synthesizing LSD-25 anytime in the near future.

I was enrolled in AP chemistry in senior yr... although I was not one of the over skilled students in that course

I have seen theoretical teks using these caffergot?, which is a pill with 50 mg caffeine and 2 mg ergotamine tartrate and you could use various techniques to remove the caffeine. Leaving you with usable tartrate, rendering a feasible route to LSD from pharmaceutical drugs. You still need the nessessary chemistry back ground, the equipment, time, and the other chemicals, for you haven't synthesized LSD yet only gotten the source of it and now won't have to grow ergot on rye.

My question is why would someone with the chemistry background go this route rather than just doing a morning glory extraction and synthesizing from LSA.

I'm not american so yeah I have studied Organic chemistry but only the basics, this is a long term project so I wouldn't mind studying it myself for a few years before synthesising. if you can get a source of pure ergotamine tartrate it'd be worth your while i suppose but there really isn't that much LSA in MG or HBW. 10 g of ergotamine tartrate would be sufficient for a synthesis of 3g approx of LSD that's 20 000 hits....
