GOOD cloning technique?

hi im new to this whole growing thing and was wondering if anybody had any good techniques on finding a suitable mother for clones and how to be certain its going to be a female.

Cloning is down the road a bit for you, my friend. Im still trying to do a successful clone. If you are new, read a bunch of FAQs first. Then give it a try. You will find that one quesiton leads to another to another. Thats when this forum comes in real handy.

First do a grow from start to finish. This will teach you more than any text can.

thanx for the quick response. lets just say im asking this question for a friend hes experienced, but only starts from seed...wasting his time with males and germ. He wants to find a good mother for cloning but doesnt know how to go about finding a female mother.

Check this out. It's one of the easiest methods out there. Remember to use sharp razor blades that are clean. Cut at a 45 degree angle (I cut underwater so I don't get an air bubble). Don't make it harder than it needs to be. Best of luck.

You don't want to clone any plant that is less than 8 weeks old. By this time you should see preflowers. Preflowers aren't a guarantee of sex but it's a pretty good indicator. Make sure to label the clones and take plenty of them. You obviously want to keep good notes and Labelling is very important so you'll know which mother the clones came from. If you want to be sure you've got a female take a clone that has rooted and flower it. I also recommend using a heat mat for rooting clones. Be careful because they can get way too hot. I always put a few towels on top of the mat and then put my propagator on top of that. Keep the humidity very high for the first week or so. Then gradually introduce them (also called hardening off) to their new environment once they are rooted.

Yes but I would wait until the plant is at least 8 weeks old if you want to get good mature clones and have good success with rooting them.

ok thanx this information is going to be very usefull! What do suggest for lighting on mothers lets say 3 or 4 big mother plants. but we dont want them growing out of control taking over the house.

Ahhhhh that's a good question. It depends on your situation. Use what you can, CFL's T5's, MH. Keep in mind that you can top and prune moms in order to keep them reasonably small. Once you get your system up and running you won't need to maintain moms if you don't want to. You can take clones from clones and do a perpetual grow.

No problem. Reading and learning is great and I recommend anybody starting out should do a lot of it. That being said it will only take you so far. Experience is the best teacher IMO and especially where growing is concerned. As you get a few grows under your belt you'll figure out what works for you. There are a million different methods for cloning and some plants may respond better than others with a particular method. Different methods may work best for you. I'm a big fan of trying different shit because it's the only way to learn what will work for you and your situation. Best of luck my friend.
