Prices of Growing

So i have been doing quite alot of research on growing my own weed, but what i am a little shaky on is how much the price of growing compares to the price of buying.

I understand there is "nothing like growing your own bud" and actually knowing that your weed is the highest quality possible.

But my question is is it actually WORTH growing your own weed? i thought i'd post this so that others, as well as myself could learn about the total cost of growing.

If others could post their costs of growing (i.e. rise in the power bill, total cost of materials, etc.) varying from different growing methods, that would be greatly appreciated. If everybody could post their experiences in this field i believe this could be a good post to all new to growing.

think bout it??? im in the uk and good high grade weed unfortunatly is costing £170-£200 an oz i can set up a grow room for say £500 and out of that get maybe 16oz a harvest more or less.

Yes, i seen it been sold at £30 for 2.8g. Gold is £7 agram right now, You do the maths! I love that fact

Also, im using some heavy(and expensive) nuetriants on my last 2 and wouldnt even get close to it costing £1 after initial cost of setup. And its clean

i was just thinking this earlier i probably have 500$ worth of "investment" into it. That includes my lights my pots my soil my ferts and everything and the lights have already been paid for since ive grown a few oz of good bud with them. I smoke about an ounce a month of good weed and thats like 300-400$ so obv it's worth it financially but is it worth the risk is the real question? That's the only reason pot is expensive is the risk of authorities. That's why I'm glad I can legally grow my own now.

dude check out the ghetto growers thread. they get results for cheap so go for it. do one grow grow a couple zips and shut it down then add up the costs and see which one is cheaper

even if your not selling and you use say 1 gram a day...around here that would be at least $400/month .... so at $400/month and it takes say 3 months to get your first harvest = $1200

your initial set up can be very inexpensive....under $400 and have lets say 4 plants...4 plants should produce at least 84 grams .... you can do the math within a first harvest you have returned your investment and consider from then on you are paying $50-60/month for 1 gram a day. Can you buy it for $2/gram? These are conservative estimates

how much money do you have? you can spend as much on your grow as you want to, if i were to recoup my money spent in the last few months, i could probs have bought 1lb or so of dank. or i could have been sensible and spent £200 and i'd be set.

simple answer is i spent aroudn £300 initially, and my first 3 plants out would have gotten me maybe £1200 off them.

yeah power n all, say you go soil ive had n seen some wicked results with just soil, my last soil grow i got 13oz from 2 plants in soil.

so say you go soil which will work out at prob the cheapest??? dont quote me. £100 for a 600hps you can you use that for veg n flower not ideal but it will work (im doing it now) £200 for seeds,pots,soil etc that leaves £200 for power.

i spent roughly with everything and electric £700-£800 on my first grow. I got about £1500 back. Just a 1mx1m using some advice from a vet grower for products that cost but were benifitial. Made my money and more back on first grow, so it actually cost me nothing after 3 months and i was £700-£800 up! It also allows me not work for minimium wage!!!!

Here's my run down, basically:
2 2x4x10s for wall addition - free
Mylar - bout $20 for 25 ft or so
400 W MH Ballast, hood and Lamp - $250
400 W HPS Conversion Lamp - $100
Res, 4 pots + soil - $30
Gro + Bloom Nutes 4L Total, molasses - $40
PH up + down, Ph liquid tester - $15
Carbon filter, ducting etc - $250
Oscillating Fan - $10
And of course the seeds! 5 pack - $50
Electricity is included in my rent so I don't know how much

= Roughly $765

Mind you this was purchased over time as my grows have progressed and you could grow for much cheaper with smaller lighting, carbon filter or none at all etc. and obviously various supplies need replenishing at an additional cost. At first you may not find it is worth it, depending on your operation, but over time you will make your money back ten fold and have the peace of mind knowing where the bud you smoke is coming from and the satisfaction of growing it yourself.

My first grow was only 1 plant from bagseed so obviously that didn't cover my expenses. But my current one I'll be harvesting about 6-7 oz most likely. Where I'm from that's worth about $800-$900 or so. I won't be selling anything but that certainly covers all of the costs, and then some.

Oh, and I would also recommend getting a digi ph/ec meter. I don't own one but they're much better than my liquid ph.

Yes, i use 1mx1m for veg/flower/cut now with bud box 2.4mx1.2m which ive just managed get 4 week rotation on under 2x600w light. Just got student loan and spent £700 ontop but now have everything i need for 2 grows+. Essentials PH/CF/Temp monitor stick thing is worth a £1000! Cost £100 here. Ok, OTT but you get me I spent £50 on ojust ph which broke in 2 month max. Essentials allows you just change the sensor which as 12 month gurantee and 3 year on the electronic part. Fast and accreate. Perfect.

All in 6 months! My next move will be to a big house (from bedsit!!!) and keep my current place as landlord is cousha. Its got 10/11ft ceilling so ill be getting some serious 14 week 9ft+ hazes on in there when i convert it. Then go live in spain where its ok to grow your own weed with no worry. We can dream but seriously. 2 years you can go from nothing to been able set up a nice life for yourself! Thats why goverment dont like weed! it has too many useful uses which pharmacutical/oil/banks cant stop you exploiting. And not just smoking. Hempo is one of, if not the most vertile material known to man!!!

i agree, give me enough space n equipment n i could, on my own easily turn out a £250,000 a year and im a newb its not hard to grow sellable gear, im not saying it aint hard to grow the top stuff but my blueberry sells for £150 an oz all day long.

i agree! but in the u.k there nothing better than sparking up your own bud, knowing its not SPRAYED! and not costing you £200+ an oz. lol

i just did a run down on how much my initial investment was.. came out to around $900 or so.. the thing is that is just an initial investment, and the actually running costs after that are much cheaper.. i pay about an extra $2o/month to run a 250 watt lamp for the month.. i paid around $60 dollars for the three pack or fox farms grow big, big bloom and tiger bloom nutes which will last about three or so grows of around four or so plants.. another $60 or so for the fox farms suppliments, which will last a lot longer than a few grows.. so what im trying to say that a lot of that initial investment is gonna last a lot longer than just the one grow.. spending the $1k for my initial investment, i can get around 6 or so ounces every three months with a month veg time.. where i live, an ounce of good mj goes for around $450 or so ..so six o's at that price would cost me $2700 or theres about, which is a saving of over $1700 over my inititial costs, which are wayy more than what my monthly maitenence costs are..
to sum it all up, it is much much cheaper to grow your own, not to mention the satisfaction you get knowing that you are doing so.
