I've grown outdoors every season for years, but just did my first indoor closet grow with great success. What I'm wanting to ask is, does anyone else ever feel guilty harvesting their plants? I mean, I've lovingly cared for them for months. They blossom into these gorgeous flowers hoping to procreate and bring closure to their existence, and then I cut them down... with pruning shears (or a hacksaw outside). This never gets any easier every harvest, even though I know they're on death's door anyway. I do not feel the same way about vegetables in my garden. I even go deer hunting once a year to stock the freezer for winter, and although I approach this with great reverance for the animal, I would say that I feel more remorse cutting down my sweet smelling companions who's flourescent sunlight and lush greenery makes me happy in the dreary winter.

Well, here I go. I'll check back in a bit, with another scar :(
... And another pile of sweet smelling tasty Jamaican Grape nuggets to cure and look forward to :)

Haha. You're not alone man. My heart sinks every time I hack one down. But while I'm manicuring it and getting ready to hang it to dry I start to feel a little better :)

As I burn this sweet scissor hash my sadness is drifting away. I think herb has figured out that while humans are destroying it, some of us love it just the way it is. My girls wanted to be smoked :)
They're telling me so right now.
Thanks Binford! It's good to know some other people feel the same hurt. If anyone finds this thread during a pre-harvest moral dillema, just know that by harboring this terrific plant you are fulfilling it. Cut them with a sharp quick blade, dry and cure properly, and spread it among your friends so that they can feel the love too!

I think of them like Charlie Tuna who wants to be starkist, or those snowflakes that want to go to Utah. Their purpose is to produce perfect buds and get into those jars - yahooooo!

I do share the pain. I look forward to the harvest, checking them every day for just the right timing...but when it comes time to actually..."do the deed", I hesitate...thinking the same thing. you spend 3-4 months nurturing and caring for them. giving them a better environment than even you have! perfect temps, perfect humidity, all the nutes they can handle, bug free..then you kill it. aaaaaaannnnd then you trim it, dry it, and smoke it, all whilst reminiscing the plants life and appreciating the dankness of the nugs.
:bigjoint: Personally its gotten a little easier for me, lol. the first one was the hardest...damn was she pretty.

You are definitely not alone on this one. I try to think of it as a trade off. A give and take deal. I take of her for a few months, then she takes care of me for a few months.

thats y i perpetuate my harvests every 3 weeks... that way i always have nugs in the room to keep me company rather then looking at an empty room and waiting for it to fill bak up

HAHA thats SO funny i get that same feeling like im almost sacraficing one of my children! I hang them on the lines and i remember exactly where each arm was on each plant in the room. I say ohh this one was from the left corner just to the right of the center of the bulb, or this was a side arm of the farm corner plant. Aww man it is tough sometimes. LOL. Whatever, thats there purpose in life. I like to think of them like suicide bombers, they have grown to fulfill there purpose in life, now they are moving on to heaven (MY LUNGS!@!@!)

Some people call me crazy?
