Is there really any point to autoflower strains?

My question mainly comes to the point of electricity consumption.

For example two seperate rooms:

NON autoflowering strain 12/12 1000w hps

Autoflowering strain on 24/0 500w hps

Obviously both rooms will be using the same amount of electricity every month, but won't the NON autoflower strain get a lot more weight??

They say 0.5 grammes per watt, afterall.

Oh and for arguments sake, yes i know you would need a veg cycle for the non auto's. But im talking about the flowering room here.

Novelty....Space limitations......Fast producer

IMO....I'd rather grow the biggens :hump:

I did a seed run with autos and have enough to last me my lifetime

i personally like em cause they're little...and relatively quick lifecycle-wise. if you're growing outdoors then not having to wait for the light to change before they bud is probably a good one too.

but yeah if you've got the resources to be doing proper big ass grows i'm not sure why autos would be good...it's all a matter of taste though

I have grown autoflowers for about 3 generations.Electicity/time cosumption in flower room in autoflower case is 20/24 not 24 straight . but generally you are right. even in auto is more since you will use everything including fan and filter and ... on for 20 hours and not 12 hours.
I use my diesel ryder(an auto flower strain) F2 to have the fastest yield untill my photoperiod plants give me the annual yield for my medical use.in this matter i love autos(fast and easy) but if you want a serious high ,they are not the case .

I'm a huge fan of autos, especially auto ak47 - for me it's a tasty smoke that's not overpowering, and despite opinion its a big yielder (last auto grow in my sig). I have limited space and time as I grow in a cupboard in my home office. My girlfriends parents visit several times a year and I need to grow in-between visits.
My current grow is a white widow clone that's taken ages and I've had to move it out of the house once already due to a visit!
Haven't done the maths on electricity consumption but I'm sure 8 weeks of 20/4 beats my current 150 days of growing this WW.

i would say autoflowers would be nice to use for growing outdoors with short seasons.. minnesota, wisconsin, michigan, etc..

From the standpoint of saving electricity there's no point in growing auto's.

More light + more bud. so there's no point in growing with shorter days throughout.

First, dont autostrain in flower rooms
Each strain ive ever seen thats autoflower will get u no yeald at all with a 12/12 grow.
on the upside though, 8 weeks seed to harvest. where most non-autos need that or longer to just bud.

There is a good point to it all though, as it buds based on age rather then light.
You could put one in a window middle of winter and it will grow, and bud, and be decent. regardless.
Anything less then 18hrs of light a day however, and youll get maybe 5 to 10 grams off a plant only.
in 18/6 youll get 45-90grams "strain dependant"

This information is taken from the joint doctor. The father seedbank of modern auto's

This is from the "Bone Doctor".....It aint gonna grow in a window sill...in winter...or any other time....anywhere near as advertised. I just got done testing that theory and after 9 weeks they were barely showing sex. I planted 7 of them on Xmas day...5 in FFOF and 2 in 100% perlite and all in 16oz party cups and all on the same window sill. The P'lite grew to 6-7" w/3 nodes and the ffof grew to 2" with 1 node (TINY). I've grown many LR's and done a seed run with lowryder ak47. They are all RIP now. :joint:

My buddy grows while he veggin his other non-autos, uses 1000w MH and 1000w HPS for his room, 19/6 light, the room is full so not all that intention for 5 auto ak's but we like to veg our regular plants for longer than most anyways, 10-12 wks, so it sets up great to throw a few autos in there. So far he's only used fem's, lowryder1, hindu kush, he was averaging just over an oz. and the smoke was pretty good, nothing overwhelming about it but solid herb. Im skeptical about throwing them outdoors cause Ive heard some yields that were quite small, like 7-16g, but I never actually saw those plants. We should have about 6-10 started in about a month, so I'll try to atleast give some pictures, journal really arent my thing. Also growing out some grn.crackXmighty mite that looks ridiculous, personally I like the auto's just to have a little something interesting going on...and I also saw one that put out over 60gs in 8wks of the hindu kush...so some have a darn good yield for autos. Just my opinion, I know there not for every1 but atleast a good option for alot of people. Just ordered some more fem auto aks from attitude, got 5 free fems, LA woman, Church, Bubba Kush, King Kush and hopin it pops Super lemon haze...heard good smoke reports on it. Peace and good growin to all!

I've done both and I like both - for different reasons. I like the "regular" ones because of the yields. I also like the autos because (1) you can grow them off in 2 months (2) cops don't normally look for plants in July and I could have two outdoor grows in the jar by then. (3) they are very short - short enough to do a stealth grow of 100 plants, tucked behind a shed, bushes, plants, or a fence. They do have their place in my opinion. However, that being said, I'm still going to grow the regular ones too.

BTW, I just ordered a 10er of feminized Super Lemon Haze seeds from the Doc. :)
