Best Fake Story for Grow Box?

So my plans for stealth were somewhat usurped by my 2nd grader who found the box prior to me finishing the faux front of the plastic cabinet that was there.

Now I am racking my brain to come up with a good story for why there is a big plywood box in our closet. So far the best I can come up with is "air filter for the house" (explains the sounds of the fan). Lame.

Any ideas???

tell him it's an electrical breaker for the house. that it's very sensitive, and if it gets touched too hard it can explode and electrocute everybody in the house. that's why there's a box there, so nobody can touch it and if he goes near it he can die electrocuted......

he won't go near it again.... buajaja

I actually think that's prolly a pretty good one, he's young, and ur daddy, I think he'll prolly except that, just act like it's no big idea and he'll forget it eventually. Or maybe just move it to somwhere else in the house where it would make sense for a "air filter" to be. Good luck bro.

Oh yikes, 2ng graders are nothing to underestimate since they are programmed to learn =D. I'm sure you have long since gave an explanation to your kiddo but this is a pretty interesting question and it got me thinking. Not trying to rez an old thread. I think the suggestion about the breakers is really good, or passing it off as any house function could work. You could also say it's a safe to keep birth certificates and the house deed (helping explain the lock.) Another route could be saying it's to protect some widget that is under the house that manages the AC/heat/water/oxygen levels/proper directional current of the toilet bowls etc.

I remember when I was very very young displaying interest in my dads indoor garden that he always kept in his locked ammo reloading attic room. Not surprisingly I have no other memories of really being in there. I'll bet that's when my parents decided I was too old and should be shielded from the secret. Ironically enough we lost that house to a house fire that started in that very room :-P.

tell him its a transportation box, and if he ever gets too close or opens it he will be transpoted to another universe and never see you or anyone he loves again, I think that will work ;)

Just make sure that fucker is LOCKED up tight... and then just give him any of the BS stories around. I know when I was that age I knew EVERY spot in my house and I would get into anything I could to see what was there...

If it was me, I'd probably just say it's some sort of HVAC equipment, since it'll probably be making a noise. If it's only a 2nd grader then they'll probably believe it.
