EC meter? How do i convert to PPM?

Hello Fellow growers :eyesmoke:

I have just recieved my PH meter and EC meter.
The PH meter is no problem to use, i got that :mrgreen:
But my EC meter i am having a little bit of trouble with.

My question is: How can i convert the reading i get on the EC meter to PPM??
The scale on my meter is 0.00 - 20.00 EC
I'm not even sure what that meens.
Anyone that can explain me this?

1.0 EC = approx. 600 ppm as a rule of thumb. So, .333 EC = 200 ppm and .50 EC = 300 ppm, etc. The 0.00 - 20.00 EC scale just means your meter is capable of reading up to 20.00 EC - it's unlikely you would ever go much above 2.0 EC (1200 ppm).

When i add my nutrients to the solution (GHE Total series) it reads 2,3-2,4 EC

Is this too much? The water is pretty hard very i live (Denmark)

250 PPM = 0.35 EC
600 PPM = 0.85 EC
800 PPM = 1.14 EC
1000 PPM = 1.42 EC
1200 PPM = 1.71 EC
1300 PPM = 1.85 EC
1400 PPM = 2.00 EC
1500 PPM = 2.14 EC
1600 PPM = 2.28 EC

The meters use different ones to convert the EC into ppm.. this is why ppm is stupid.. someone saying I run 1600 ppmm blah blah.. that could be 1150 on the other guys meter...

USE EC... and it all depends on the size of your plant.. start lower and work your way up until you notice burning then back down a bit.. EASY...

well you can use CF also which is an easy conversion to and from EC... look at the chart.. take away the decimal in the EC and that's the CF.. EASY

it probably has something to do with the electronics inside.. it's easier for the .7 and .5 companies to make it that way.. gotta be some reason..

Different manufacturers use different conversion formuli to convert EC to PPM. You are far better off just sticking with EC.

Your EC can be anywhere from 1.2 to 1.8 for hydro - 1.5 is good and will jump up on you as water is consumed. You may also see EC expressed in micro Semens as opposed to milli Semens so the decimal will kick over 3 places making it 1200 - 1800. And stop using commas as decimal points - are you going to start driving on the wrong side of the raod next?

As long as you learn your plants and your equipment, it doesn't matter if you measure with EC, PPM or yellow dots...

The important thing it that YOU KNOW what read on your meter to avoid problems...

I find my aero/dwc vegger is at a perfect equalibrium at about 1.2-1.3

how do I know which one I have? I got a digital meter that says tds meter on the case and on the unit itself it says TDS-3 TDS/temp HM digital? so I don't if my is using hanna, eutech or truncheon scale. I am very new to growing also. and want to learn as much as I can. can you recommend any good readings for me? I'll try to put a picture for you later. I just learned about this site so I need to get fimiliar with it.

OK what reading are you getting? Numbers I mean.
