light heights???

so if its better to keep ur lghts close to the plants, y do i see all these big ops with lights like 4 feet above??? does the extra surface area the light covers by being up high make up for lost luminus on the plants directly below????

Well, if you have a 400w bulb, you can put it considerably closer to the pant than a 1000w bulb. The bigger ops use bigger lights which will burn the plants if you put them too close. If you are growing in your closet you might only have a 250w light, which you will need to place much closer to have the same effect on the plant. The distance is directly related to power output.

usually if its a pic in a magazine then they raise the lights as to take a better pic of the plants. remember those lights are bright as fuck.

I dunno man, assuming you have even lighting over your grows footprint, you would logically want the light as close as possible without burning. I assumed the 4ft in the first post was a sarcastic exaggeration. Personally I've never seen somebody hang their light a full 48" above the canopy. I agree that doesn't make sense.

I always assumed that you get a temp reading at your canopy and lower the light until it hits 80. Could be wrong though.

listen man when u use 1000 metal to veg with u can pull the light up and have to do to heat,with a 400w like mine is or should not be more than 12n away.light lumens lets start 50,000 lumens at 12in from canopy is how it is measured now bring it close like mine at 6in away and the lumens are now 100,000 and at 18in it's 25,000 lumens,got it k now 1000w 150-160,000 lumens u can loose some lumens do to to the high lumens now back it up and we are right @ or around 50,000 get it,so i have more light at 6in than a 1000w at 3ft and grow in 4x4 area up to 8 plants,hope this helps it's the best i can do bro!!

I understand how the luminus to height thing works. I keep my lights low too. I jus see pics of high lights. Maybe buddy is rite and they r jus lifted at the time for better pics. I am now on my phone and not my comp so I can't really post a pic of what I'm talkin about but will do so tomorow

I just keep my lights high enough that the light level on the wall is at the same height of the canopy while making sure canopy temps are within reason. (AIR MOVEMENT!!)

I think I learned to look a the light "line" on the wall from the seemorebuds video back in the day
