they looked mature and viable to me. any idea if planting them would be a good or bad idea? i harvested my remaining kush girls this afternoon and outside of the foxtails they seemed normal with no expressions of maleness i could see. they came out really nice and full and smell phenominal. i just cut them down, trimmed them, and put them in paper grocery bags to dry. i check and shake the buds about twice a day but it's pretty much hands free until they're ready to go into ziplocks where i'll kinda repeat. if anybody has a suggestion on how to improve what i'm doing i'd love to hear it. i saw a little bit about leaving them in the dark for 24+ hours before harvest?
these were grown in MG soil with MG bloom booster during flowering and also AN nutes. spray n grow throughout. solid flush 2 weeks prior to harvest. the bud looks nice and i hope that i will have remedied the chemically taste i got from the last when i dint flush as well. this weed is good, but it's not the CHRONIC. u know what i mean? anything come to mind to improve the process?
jester,
I really don't know what to tell you about why you got those seeds. If it would have been from one of the plants going early stage hermie I should think you'd have a lot of mature seeds and have them on all the plants in that grow. If it would have been from those late stage bananas that form in the colas they would have been partially formed, immature seeds. All though may be the bananas formed a little earlier than usual (or you went a little to long before harvest), released some pollen and the plant still had enough time left to form some mature seeds.
Where were the seeds located at on the plant? Up in the top colas or lower down on the plant? Can you post a picture of the seeds? About how many of them did you get?
As to whether or not you should try growing those seeds out.....well, you might have no problems and then you might run the risk of one of them going early stage hermie and getting more seeds (on every thing in that grow).
The fact that those plants originally came from "feminized" seeds would make me extremely leery that they carried that recessive gene that causes that early stage hermaphroditism.
I lay my trimmed buds out on cardboard pop/beer flats and turn them every day until dry. I wouldn't go shaking them around to hard in a paper bag for fear of knocking to many trichromes off them.
I'd skip the ziplock bags if I were you and use glass jars (with a good sealable lid). Besides the plasticisers and other chemical vapors they give off they hold an electrostatic charge that attracts and holds any broken off trichromes. I occasionally still put a bud or two in a plastic bag to take it some where but for the most part have gotten into the habit of keeping all mine in glass jars (in a dark place).
After you think your weed is dry and you put it in a jar you need to open that jar every day and check it by reaching in and feeling a bud and giving it a sniff for at least 2 weeks. You'd be surprised at how what you thought was a dried bud you put in the jar will moisten back up. This is because while the bud may have felt crispy dry on the out side there was still moisture deeper down in it. If it gets to feeling to moist and pliable leave the lid off the jar for a while until some more of the moisture can evaporate. And don't pack to much into one jar at first, leave it loose in there. The reason for sniffing it is to make sure you don't get the least bit of moldy smell. If it starts to smell the least bit moldy dump it back out for a day. I once lost some weed to mold by not paying close enough attention at this stage of the game. I like for my weed to have a least 4 to 5 weeks of jar time before I consider it to be fully cured and ready to share with others. I think it makes a hell of a difference in the quality of the smoke. I've got some from two grows back that's been curing in a jar for around a year and it has a much better, more complex, smoother taste than the more recently picked stuff.
I'm betting if you do a little slower dry and longer cure you'll get rid of that "chemical" taste you think was caused by lack of flushing. Was it really a chemical taste or just the taste of green, uncured weed?
If I recall "fdd2blk" has a pretty good tutorial here on the forums about harvesting and curing. It's well worth the reading.
I don't think there's much (if anything) to this giving weed an extended dark period before harvesting. Any more I just try to pick mine at the end of a 12 hour dark period. But if you want to try giving it 24 hours of darkness before harvest go for it. I don't think it will make a bit of difference one way or the other.
