Best ways to counter-act algae with hydroponics?

I'm starting to get algae and a musty odor in my bubbler. Since this discovery I have changed to distilled water and cleaned the bubbler best I can 6 weeks into a grow. I was able to completely clean & sanitize the vessel but the water pump, hoses, lid, etc. can only be cleaned so well without hurting the plants.

Is there anything I can add to the water to dissapate and/or prevent algae besides keeping light out of your bubbler.

They make an all natural algae killer for hydroponics. I dont no the name i have never used it before.

If you are not using organic nutes then you can try add some Hydrogen Peroxide into the DWC bucket. I had root rot once in my DWC due to lack of air (only 1 airline then, now I have 2). It is such a pain in the butt taken me like 3 week to recover some grows and 1 plant had to remove most of its roots (yes, like 98% of them) except 1 or 2 healthy ones. I am using Pythoff occasionaly in my DWC and aeroponic box just incase. Look at some hydrop shop and see what they got.

PS: also make sure your airline in the nute is solid black, clear fish airline does pass lights.

If you are getting algae in your bubbler it is because you have light getting to it. If you block out all the light it should solve your algae problem.

Great info, thanks blade. I recently made a "skirt" for my bubbler. There was way too much light passing through the plastic vessel and lid. I also made a "topper" to further reduce light inside the chamber. The black airhose is the shit though. didn't even occur to me.

I agree 100%. I think I've cleaned out 98-99% of the algea and changed to distilled water. Almost completely blacked out the vessel except for airline hose suggested by blade, to be black.
