How to vacuum seal jars

If you have glass jars simply heat them up to where they are just over warm enough to the touch, add product then seal. As air is heated it expands and as it cools down it returns to its normal state. You will hear the jar gasp for air when time come to open.

A good way to remove moisture quickly from marijuana (which is not recommended but i will share anyway) is to place weed in glass jars and slowly heat the jars up using a stove (on and off on low) your not trying to scorch anything but like above just keep them just over comfortable to the touch. You will see moisture being leeched out of buds. Again, this process is a quick dry not a cure. Good when you are just wanting to sample you harvest for the first time, knowing a couple ounces or lbs are on the way. Be careful because glass will break if the difference in ambient temperature and temperature of glass is too extreme.

To be honest the last thing I want to do is put my hard earned bud over a direct heat source unless i'm inhaling it.

I use that method when I jar my tomato sauce. I put it when it still boils in the jar and close.
That way I can let it go in the fridge for a while until I open it.

I might heat my jar next time I put some buds in the freezer for long time storage.

why would you want to do that though? Anything above 29'C breaks down the THC in you're bud. If I were you I would just save up enough for a vaccum sealer.

35°C is pretty normal around here. buds still goes fine and THC doesn't break.
at 29°c live plants start to show overheating problems. That doesn't mean the THC breaks.

anyway, it won't be kept over 20°C for long.
I would just heat the jars, put the herb, close and put in the fridge. In a couple of minutes it shouldn't be that hot anymore.

you dont put the weed in the jars while your heating them up. were not talking scorching hot...just warmer than room temperature. if there was any thc vapor it is locked in the jar with the weed. thc loss is minimal if done right.

I've done some research and I found something that looks like it works wonders, fairly cheap, and takes the heat right out of the equasion. Its called JarVac Vaccum sealers by deni, it's about $60 and you have the option of perchasing a "large mouth" attachment for larger jars. Maybe it's something you've seen before, I dunno, I just thought it would be a good idea!

I didn't say I'd put the weed before I'd heat them.
i'd heat the jar to 60-80°C, put the weed and close it pretty fast.
then let it cool to around 40°C and put it in the freezer.
The whole process should take under 2 minutes.
If you can put the weed in the over for 10 minutes at 85°C with minimal THC loss I'd count this method as safe.

I use thoes as well usually.
when you heat the jar before putting it in a cold place you create a vacum. thats not only air tight, thats less air inside the jar.

I don't do it as well. While curing I open my jars every 1-3 days to allow humidity escape.
I won't do this whole mess every time.

But if I'd need to keep some small stash for a long period of time I might use this method. Until you open the jar it should help the buds stay good.

mc fonz, that was a response to megs post. sorry... yea this method is only for that special stuff you want to save for long periods, or anything other than weed. you can use it for cannabutter, spagehtti sauce, pickling solutions....

i use it for spagehtti cream sauce all the time - I put it in the jar while hot and close it.
It survives much longer than the normal 5 days in the fridge.

Hi! I just came accross this thread via google and vacuum sealing. I have written an article on my website about cold vacuum sealing jars which I think you will find very useful. The method does not use any heat at all, but does require a simple, inexpensive pump. Depending on where you live there are a couple of choices of pumps, and I show how to adapt the cheaper one (Vacuvin wine saver) for the purpose, and how to make your own valves with nothing but sticky tape and a plastic bag. I have stored various dried herbs and other things successfully, even for long periods.

seems like it would be a whole lot easier using vacuum sealing bags. There cheap and you dont have to heat them.

Glass is my choice. Doesn't attract resin like plastic.

For long term storage you might want to consider a vacuum. Air tight is nice. Oxygen continues to degrade the bud,so for long term storage, you can pull a vacuum.

I used to use the cheap Pump-n-Seal system, but the little yellow seals don't always work. Now I have a Foodsaver with the wide mouth jar attachment. beautiful.

Then in the basement where it's dark and cool. Bud can slow cure from that point on.

More importantly is how do you get the damn lids back off after vacuuming them without having your nugs fly all over the room.

Just pry up an edge of the lid and air slowly enters. Just like opening a jelly jar. Bud does not fly anywhere.
