Watering plants

Hi guys, great site! I'm a noob to this forum. And a noob to growing.

So far, I am a plant killer. Killed over 50 of them, so I have no green thumb. But I'm still trying.

Now I have 6 beautiful females going.

My question is,...how often do they need water? I have been watering mine 2-3 times per day.

But I also have a 1000W MH light on them and that thing kicks out some serious heat and drys the roots right up within a few hours.

Anyway, any help would be fucking fantastic!

Keep smoking and growing!

Michigan's UP? Cool biz, Michigan guy here too. I'd say two to three times a day is way too much, possibly the reason your others died off. I typically water mine once a week or so, anywhere from 5-10 days between watering. I'm using CFL's as oppsed to your 1000 watter so the heat isn't that much of a factor for me. How much do you give them each time? Even with 1000 watts I'd say watering once every 3-5 days should be sufficient, but it also depends on your grow medium, humidity, and several other factors. My guess is that you're overwatering. Try backing it off to once every 3 days or so, see how they react and go from there.

Yah mon! I am a Yooper!

My growing medium right now is soil. Miricle Grow.
And with my light, if I went a day without watering them, I am sure they will die.

Will a CFL light be enough light? I mean,...that's just like your regular house hold spiral enegery efficient light, isn't it?

I think my current light, makes my plants feel like they are touching the sun itself.
I am even getting burn marks on my leaves,...but yet the light is 3 feet above my plants.
I have it set high, because of the massive light and heat it provides.

Maybe I should just get a different light.
Like a pair of 400W HPS lights.

Well i am not much of a soil guy. but i have read a ton and nearly everyone says that miracle grow is some of the worst soil you can use....the "burn" marks might be nutrient burn from MG....some pics would be great. We Can help you much much more with pictures

Good to know. Sorry, no pics as of now. I am at work. My friend told me about this site yesterday, and I was on for a few hours checking it out, but didn't create a profile till today.

Maybe you need to move them into larger pots.If you need to water that much, that would be my guess.

When I do soil grows I use 7 gallons buckets, and water maybe once a week.. Sometimes 9 days.

Might wanna transplant into a much bigger container. Makes a hell of a difference in growth rates and yields.

Cannabis Loves alot of root space :)

Right now some are still in red plastic beer cups and stand 10" tall.
Definitely time to put them in their new pots.

Any suggesstions on the type of soil to use? If Miricle Grow is complete shit, then I don't want to fill up a new 5 gallon pail with shitty soil.

Yea it is how I started growing was with a Bubbleponics system and It has worked great for me, just need to do your research and you'll find that it is very very easy to take care of a hydro system... Many say fox farms ocean forest is some of the better soil to use, But like i said not a soil guy so maybe someone else can ad a bit of input on it.bongsmilie

Oh yeah bro, if your plants are still in party cups, with 1000 watts over them, that stuff will dry out in a matter of hours. Get bigger pots, 3 or 5 gallons, and not sure up in the UP if you'll be able to find it, but FoxFarm is the shit. If not, I'd use your basic generic potting soil as opposed to Miracle Grow soil. That, coupled with tiny containers, and a bright, super hot light, is more than likely the cause of all the burning. Bigger pots, better soil and you'll need less water. If I had a 1000 watter I probably wouldn't think of "downgrading" to CFL's, but my budget only allows for them now, and for a small, personal grow I'm quite happy with what I get using CFL's.
