Noob didn't flush nearly enough.

My first grow, I guess I didn't understand how much I needed to flush. I am used Humboldt's Oneness and Ginormous in FF Happy Frog soil, following the feeding schedule, but it seems like the feeding schedule was a bit hot. On top of that I probably only flushed 1/3 of what I should have. The buds are pretty, but they have been curing for about 2+ weeks and they taste like ass. I feel like I may not have flushed enough. Is there anything that can be done about that after harvest? I thought I had heard something about soaking them in water and re-drying them. Sure seems like you would be tempting mold, but I guess if they dry properly.... Going about 1/3 strength on nutes this time to see how it turns out. The new girls are about 3 weeks into flower and looking good!! I'll figure this shit out some day!

I never flush, never. Theres alot of debate about if there is a need to flush.

My buds dry nicely, taste and smell fine. Never had a harsh chemical taste or anything like that.

I agree with how you do things my friend.

I cant understand why some people flush out the nutrients when there needed the most (last 2 weeks).

IMHO,..Only thing your flushing away is the final yield.

Dry em out fully, and cure... if you dry them right(slow dry), and take the time to cure properly, you will have an awesome product. :bigjoint:

I say that the bad taste is due to harvesting too early than any nutrients left in the soil.

The biggest mistake that most new growers make other that loving their plants to death, is to harvest too early.

But I'm another person who thinks that flushing is a bunch of nonsense.

Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!! So far its unanimous. Flushing is not needed!!!!! Why starve your plants at a time when hey need it most! I also agree with the fact you probaly harvested early and dried a bit too fast. Keep those nugs in a sealed jar, burping every few days. Give them a month or so and they may just taste a bit better. Flavor is 5% grow/95% cure in my opinion. I know those numbers are crap, just trying to make a point.

Water curing removes the chlorophyll faster than the jar curing method. Chlorophyll gives you the hay smell and shifty taste and the levels are higher if you harvest too early. To water cure you soak your buds in cold water for a week and drain/change the water daily. After a week many recommend that you use a dehydrator to dry them, but I just blow dry them a bit then hang them to dry and have had no problems with mold. I went stricly to water curing because it is faster and does not stink up th house. The downside is that your buds do not have very much odor and don't smell dank.

i also dont believe in flushing(your just not getting the answers you want, eh?).

the plant doesnt keep stores of miracle grow or advanced nutes stashed in the plant...thats just absurd. plus think of what you see happen to the plant when you flush... the fan leaves start to yellow first because it feeds off the stored energy there to help sustain the buds, but does any visible change occur to the buds? no? then what leads you to believe that the yellowing of the leaves somehow purifies the bud? is this starting to sound silly yet? are any of the crops we eat flushed before harvest?

flushing is a marketing ploy designed by the folks who sell you your clearing concentrates, bud blasters, snow storms, purpleishious sprays, and all that other crap you guys are feeding your plants.

this is agriculture not chemistry and its not hard unless you make it so.

Well said, probably applies to a high percentage of peoples problems. They just dont let the plant be a plant.

Over the last 20 years Ive kept it simple: Good soil, good light, airflow and decent nutes.

No need to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks for all of the info guys. I don't think I harvested too early, the trichs were almost all cloudy with a few amber ones. I left most of the leaf on the plant and let it hang for about a week in a dark well ventilated area. I did not have any fans blowing on them or anything. I thought maybe I put them in jars too early because they started smelling funny after about a week, but even with a microscope I could not find any mold on any of the buds. Nevertheless, I let them dry out a little bit more, now they are completely dry...even the biggest stems snap in the middle. I have had them back in jars for a few days, hopefully this will do the trick.

just my opinion but drying with the leaves still on wont really do anything but make drying take longer and make it a real bitch to trim.
