What's up man. I'm new to this grow thing as well. If u wanna go the hps route then a 250 will be more than enough for 1 plant. Plus do u have space constrictions or is that not an issue? I have 4 plantas and I did four 4ft flour 6500k and two 42 watt cfls. My setup is real cheap. Mos def if moneys no object the hps is the way to go. But if it is. Something like my setup is enough light

go with a 400w hps..their pretty cheap and they dont make ur electricity bill go sky high..the more lumens the better

So what exactly is a CFL?? How much wattage should it have?
Thank you everyone for the input by the way.
Can't edit post for some reason. So I looked up cfls. What's a propper wattage for 1 plant. Plant will most likely be in a closet as well. Will a cfl still do fine for all the cycles??

You will want at least 4 or 5 bulbs for your plant, you can add them as it gets bigger.
For veg growth you want to use 5500k-6500k color range
For flowering you want 2700k-3000k color range

I use adapters and a power bar to setup my lights for my small grow.

Try not to think of it as watts per plant. Think about how many lumens the plant needs, and how much you are managing to shine on it.
