Ok day 16 is here. lights have been on for about 30 mins so i went down and took some pics. The tub on the left of the pics has nutes,

and the plants are still taking well to 80% strength. The tub on the right, no nutes ph 5.5. The plants seem to be turning around already,

the burn has stoped spreading and they are perking up. They are still alot smaller than the other 8, even tho they where all started at the

same time.

Looks like my first grow mate :P How far away do you have that MH?
Not trying to dig, but those things are tiny man, just gonna take a bit longer thats all :)

Stick em on 24/0 if yu haven't already, plants dont really need sleep, so for veg, in my honest opinion, that'll do best.
I dont really get why they're so small tho, sure yu got enough lighting? Think of shoving some CFL's in there, i bet yu they'll start bumping up, plus, you'll be able to use them during flowering for side lighting so its all beneficial :)

Q: Whats the temperature like in there?
Q: How much of a gap between the bottom of the netted pots and the water is there?
Q: How wet are your rockwool cubes?

But keep it up bro :) I want them to grow big and strong :)

Subbing to this thread like I said I would.

Still need these questions answered though:

How tall is the ceiling in your room?

How tall is the reflector you are using?

How tall is the tub your plants are in?

How far is it you can put the back of your hand under the light and it not get hot?

Now add all that up.

How much height do you have left now?

Ok new pics posted. Very happy with what im seeing in my nute tub, they all seem to be doing very well to the 80%

strength i gave them two days ago. They have grown great in size as you can compare from day 14, I have lowered the

light from around 28" to about 13", the temp is staying right at 80, with the oil heater at level 1. For the no nute tub i am

going to start back up with a light 40-50%mix. The nute burnt plant has got alot better, the other 5 in the no nute tub

have also shapped up and got there third set of leaves. They are gonna have to play catch up but no big deal, I will

continue to keep veging for at LEAST two weeks prob three. The pics are showing the light distance, and my tubs.

Keep in mind the tubs on left of picture are running 80% strength and tubs on right 0 nutes with A PH 5.5.

How tall is the ceiling in your room? 6 ft

How tall is the reflector you are using? 14inch above top of tubs

How tall is the tub your plants are in? 10inch

How far is it you can put the back of your hand under the light and it not get hot?about 6 to 7inch

Now add all that up. dont know what ya mean add it up?

How much height do you have left now? couldnt tell you what you mean about this sorry

Light distance should be great now. 14" for a 400w is about right from what I recall. I am going to take a stab at this. I am betting your tubs are about 14" inches tall give or take an inch. Your reflector is probably about 6 - 8 inches tall. Guessing the ceiling in your room is around 8 feet. If you subtract 3ft 8 from 8 ft you get 4ft 4 inches. You need to flower at about 2 ft.

EDIT:

Damn...I was waaayyy off. Hang on...be back in a moment.

Alright fella, you've got the gap thing fine.
Also, what the other geezer was trying to say was..

Move your light as close as you can without burning the plants, to tell if its gonna burn them, put your hand a certain distance from the bulb and see how close you can get it without your hand getting hot, that'll give you the best growth :) Light intensity deminishes with distance, so for instance using a HPS during the seedling stage would be awful because the plants would have to be so far away from the bulb that the overall running cost of the bulb would not weight out the benefits from it.

Defiantly look into getting some nice small say... 20w (100w equivilent) 6500K bulbs, or they might be labled as (cool white) or summin like that :P They'll help bush those babies up, plus yu can place them from around 1 inch to 5 inches away from the plant, check mine journal to see what they're capable of :)

Also mate, i'd look into vegging for a bit longer, basically the longer you veg the bigger a plant your gonna get, that why mother plants are used for ages to produce clones, and then once they veg out a bit after taking no clones, they grow HUGE. :)

Usually a good length of time is a month in vegging, however i hate to be the bringer of bad news but i think they'll need a bit longer :) But patience will be the ultimate test during this grow, so if you dont have it, start getting it! :P

Also, do you have any spare clayton pebbles left mate? If so, place them over the top of the rockwool cubes and generally to near the top of the pot, this way more of your stem is gonna be burried, thus making it stronger due to the length being shortened :) Instead of pebbles you could put a bit more rockwool around the top, doing the same thing :P

Right, im gonna stop talking before i go on too much

P.s. : One thing i just remembered, how deep have you placed the rockwool cubes within the netted pots? I used to do DWC and i placed the rockwool cubes with the seedlings in WAY too high, like... nearer the top of the pots then the bottom, it took ages for the roots to finally show through. If you move them down a bit they'll get more water, if you move them up a bit they'll get less, work out whats best for you, because if they're soaking it might be worth moving them up slightly, however if they have roots just ditch that idea! :P

Hope this all helps buddy and anything else you need just ask :) i'll try my best to answer when your next online

You need to flower at about 2 ft.
Nice try mate :P
Basically, in a more simple-ton approach, hes saying you needa consider the growth boost they'll get when you switch them to flowering. Generally they'll double in size so take this into consideration when choosing when to flower :)

Wow just great thanks first off. I have the lights as close i can get it with out burn.

I finally understand the measure thing sorry i am a little slow guys ill get it.

I get CFL's soon to put very close just tight budget but ill figure something out :).

About the veging I have tons of patients dont mind waiting at all i know they are small, dont care how long it takes, just wannt do it RIGHT.

about the rocks, I have tons and tons of earth rock left over ill go do that now as well, the roots are all in the water looking great, some of the rock cubes are more wet than others, but I got them down. I think i answered back everything.

I kind of figured he already knew the double in height factor since its been mentioned a couple times before already.

Take the height of your room (6 ft) and subtract the distance of the tubs, 10", the distance of the light, 14", and then the actual height of the reflector itself..from the bottom of the glass to the top of the unit from that 6 ft.

What do you have left?

Now cut that in half. When your plants are that tall...you need to flower. Let them get any taller and you WILL have height issues. Flowering a little smaller may be wise, unless you plan on training them like in a SCROG.

Mate you seem like your well on your way to success :)

One more question, do you know what temperature your water in your tank is at? If you get a small aquairum heater and shove it in one it might be quite interesting to see what difference there is in the temperature :) I can't remember the optimum water temperature but it really does help them, ran it on mine and it shot up (I was suffering from serious heat problems, WAY too cold in my old attic, stunted their growth like no tomorrow, but heck, that grows long gone now :)

But yeh, covering up a bit more of the stem will help them be more sturdy :) I would explain it scientifically, but i dont really think it needs it :P im sure you get what i mean, e.g. a shorter pencil is harder to snap then a long one :)#

one thing i've just picked up on, do you have a fan in there?

EDIT: You do have a fan, just spotted it in the pics :P use that, its fuckin important. It'll help those tooth pick stems become as thick as your thumb :) Without it, your plants will topple over and become top heavy, resulting it yu needing to string everything up to hold it up

Ok, My water temp no idear, room temp feels like.

Yes i have two fans, I read to keep the stems at a light brezz to help them stay strong /: hope thats right.

I also use a smaller fan behind my humidity to blow it on the plants.

the room stays 75 and the actual grow area above and around the tubs is 81.

Ok ima do some figuring and see if i can go get some CFL's and some water temp checkers. will the CFL light at like lowes work? I dont care to go to the hydro store just farther away lol

best thing about cfl's, near any will do :P but just try and get 20w -40w for your size grow, you dont wanna under/over do it :) Just try and get the right kelvin rating for the stage your in :) cool white = veg, warm white or summin like that = flowering :)

Yu dont HAVE to check your water mate, im sure yu cud do it without but if its gonna benefit your grow and cost you minimal then you might aswell check it :) look up on google what the optimal temperature is for the water, i aint got a clue no more it was ages ago! :P

Best of luck buddy :)

Btw, gonna take some new snaps of my girls tonight, so be sure to check up on the thread :)
