Yeah i looked into those earlier. it seems the 10. ones are the best. Do they give off much heat? I read they have a 20" range.
The bulb gives off a bit of heat, but you could easily hold it. It also comes with a starter which also gives off a heat, a bit more than the bulb I would say. Don't forget you could get the same 10.0UVB as a CFL, and you wouldn't need a starter then. But I do like my bulb as it's 30"/75cm long and so it spreads out better, and yeah supposedly it is fine up tp 50cm away from the plant so it says..there is a pic so you can see it

btw it's off otherwise I would go blind, not taking any chances

The bulb £20 and the starter £20 also(bulb last a year at least and starter 5 year guarantee). They come in different lengths so make sure you measure. Or were you talking about the cfl's? They are like £30 each, all prices are from the petstore but they seemed reasonable in comparison to online..

I think I believe the range. Some of these reptiles are not only expensive to buy, but (i imagine) fairly expensive to keep too. The bulbs are designed to mimic the UV rays these creatures would receive in their natural habitat.

I think the placement of these bulbs is going to be essential... they will definitely need to be above the plants... yet they could quite reasonably (I think) be lower than the HPS. If we could somehow hang a naked (no casing in the way) uv bulb below the HPS. We'd have it made. To me this suggests, contact points stretching across the grow area. These contact points would need to be adjustable, or more of them in varying degrees to match predicted growth rates.

Skunk,
I was just thinking about your statement of placement below the bulb.

Light waves can and do combine. Since your bulb produces UV, but whatever UV which is produced effectively gets filtered by the glass.

Therefore, when you suspend the UV below the bulb, there will be no melding of the waves, rather, I believe, it will increase the spectrum of light, both visible and invisible which reaches the plant(s).

So how can this be bad for an opening move? Much like moving a pawn forward two places to start a chess game. Makes you think.

At the end of the day, what could you do wrong? Give it tooo much UV? Have the light too far away.

Okay, somebody, anybody post something, anything on how the uv light made their plants go nutz producing THC.

I want one more than, mmmmmmm nope not that 8)

As a sidebar, I'm working intensely on getting a train wreck seed. A clone would be just too much to ask, but a single seed, would curl my toe nails.

Damn, I just recently learned of your journal, I clicked on the link in another thread to the update to your plants, here I am, thought I'd stop by and take a peak, I'll have to make more visits to read up on your journal..

BTW .. Your babies are looking great!

Thanks for swinging by Humboldt, I also appreciate the positive comments on the grow. It's an exercise in pushing rope, but I am persistent. Plus, when all else fails, it's only a few hours drive to NorCal 8)

Why not start a new grow?

Not my idea_I'm not that smart, but I really do agree with the school of thought that goes something like this.

Most people are too much in a hurry to "find a female". Like Skunk and Tahoe and others I ascribe to the theory of selection of the best, which is not necessarily the first, or the biggest but rather - the best.

If, I had a 215......what is the old saying? Why run down the hill to fuck one cow, when you can walk and fuck 'em all :) Sorry ladies - I apologize

Shit man, you are golden, just don't grow more than the prescription for your medications allows.
