400w hps compared to 1000w hps yield difference

So lets say that you have 6 plants under a 400w hps and you yield around an ounce per plant. Then, you have 6 plants under a 1000w hps. Would your yield signifantly increase because of the strength of the light? Or would the 1000w hps just allow you to put more plants under the light, but each plant would still increase the same amount as it did when it was under a 400w hps?

1000w makes denser fuller nugs...and penetrates canopy better...so 1000w is gonna increase your yield yes

Nothing, unless you can get it closer to the plants. I have a 400W simply because for a 600W or above, I would need a ducting system to be able to get the 600W or above closer to the plants. Since I don't want to do that, my top light is a 400W. If I got a 600W or a 1000W, I couldn't place it close enough to be worth it. Simply because of heat.

Did u know that lumens are messured 30cm away from bulbs? I.e the further away u hang ur 1000w, the less lumen is gonna reach the plants. If u have some kinda cooling device like coolshade daystar or w.e its called, then ofc u can put ur 1000W closer and benefit from the extra output, or if u hang it like 3 feet away push in more plants under the light. But to get 145,000lumens to ur plant, it needs to be hung 30cm away from the tops, and then the tops will get 145,000lumens. But its not all about the lumens, right? What 400w bulb u messuring with? Mine has an output of 58,000lumen wich makes ur 1000w "big dog" put out 2,5 times the lumen but only if hung at same distance from plants. I keep my 400W at 28cm away from tops.
Anywho...whatever way u look at it, the 1000W is gonna make ur ladies throw u more and bigger nuggies.

My 1000watt light is on a light mover, so my light is about 10"-12" above the tops, grabbing most of that 145,000 lumen. If I had no light mover, then there would be a heat issue if the light was kept that close. I would need to raise the light to 24"-32", not getting the full amount of lumen to the plants.

What?might wanna recheck that I've grown with both and there no comparison.I'd say even 2 400's can't compare to the 1000 which with external ballast in an air cooled hood is'nt that hot

Actually he is right. 50,000 Lumens at 12"= 50,000 lumens where as 150,000 lumens at 24"= 37,500 lumens.

I honestly think it's more efficient to use smaller lights. I think your going to yield 1 pound off the 1000w in a 5x5 in 3 months. Or 1 pound off a 400w 5x5 in 4 months.
So with 2 lights you will get 2 lbs instead of one without a light mover. Less heat less bs. No moving plants around easy.

I would love to have my room set up with 4 100w HPS air cooled tubes per table. 1 per sq foot of grow space optimal

My 1000w grow bigger plants faster but it's kinda a waste of light. I think its best to have 1 plant per light because that plant will get all the light it needs in the center and distribute that power to grow outer branches that don't get as much light. Instead of having weaklings shaded by larger plants. I think it would be nice to have 4 lights on 1 plant or more lights depending on size and veg time. Plant count... Time and money

Check out 1000w ballasts splitters. Run 2 500w bulbs of 1 ballast. And consider the cords, plugs, timers and cost of buying and hanging multiple lights
