120+ degree temp issue

I have a 6'x6' grow room with no windows, and no ventilation.

I installed a 1000W MH bulb and shroud and placed it over 6 potted plants.

One plant died within a week, one plant is struggling with burnt leaves, and the other four plants are just fine.

I notice that the room is way too fucking hot. I keep the door open as much as I can, but that is usually only an hour at a time.

Two days ago I finally put in a thermo that reads up to 120 degrees. I checked it the next day and it was maxed out! Fuck me!!

Last night I installed a 4" In-Line duct fan and am using it as a small exhaust fan to take some of the heat outside of the house.

I will check the temp again today during my lunch break. I am hoping it is down some.

ANY MORE IDEAS THAT I COULD DO TO LOWER THE TEMPERATURE IN MY GROW ROOM? I DON'T WANT TO BURN THE PLANTS BEFORE I AM ABLE TO BURN THE PLANTS.

ANY HELP OR PROVEN IDEAS WOULD BE GREAT! I'M A GROWING NOOB TRYING TO GET A GREEN THUMB AS FAST AND EFFICIENT AS POSSIBLE.

i almost don't know what to say to this...
you honestly thought you was just gonna plunk a 1000 watt light in a enclosed unvented room and it was gonna just grow weed...your lucky you didn't set the house on fire
you need to take a bit and rethink your grow and do some more research and redesign that room or the only thing your gonna get is a ambulance ride for smoke inhalation in the middle of the night...bongsmilie

I'm pretty sure I am going to need to cut another hole in my wall.
One for ventilation going out, and another one to bring in new fresh air.

oscillation fan + intake.exhuast fan = lower temps. if you get some good airflow with proper ventilation you should be fine. how far is your hps from your plants?

I agree an isolating fan plus extraction fan should bring the temp down to 74 – 76 f without the need for intake as it’s not a sealed air tight room natural oxygen circulation will occur an as you only have 1000w of light you should be ok but obviously 80f plus is not good enough so if you have to put in intake fan in to get it down 10f more do it but try my method first. As I don’t have my intake on yet not warm enough in England brings my room temp down to 62f. Hope this helps

I do have an oscillating fan in my grow room. The fan has been there since day #1.
And the room is sealed pretty well. I duct taped every fucking thing.

Anyways, a fan was installed last night.
I did check on them at around midnight last night, and the temp was back down to 75, but the light was off four about 5 hours by that time.
And now the light has been on since 1 am. My wife should have opened the door this morning and watered them.
I will check on them during my lunch break.
I will be happy as fuck if the temp reads 80 or under!

Fuck,...I'll be happy if it reads 85 or under.

Probably only cuz I open the door as much as possible.
That, and keeping up on watering them, cuz they dry out fast.

Is an air cooled hood just an exhaust fan connected to the hood to draw the heat away from the light?

If so, I could just make one.

Kind of - they have flanges to connect your ducting to, and a nice thick glass plate on bottom. Here's a pic of my 600's, with air cooled hoods. I would be very, very careful of anything DIY with that light - with the heat it puts out, you want to make sure anything you try to make yourself won't catch fire.

Thanks for the pic. Very nice set up.
I don't think I will be able to attach glass to my current shroud.

But I can make a whole new shroud to accept glass and weld it all up out of stainless steel.
I am a metal manipulator with skills like that.

try craigslist or something like that. At my local grow shop a good vented hood cost around 175 bucks. But I was able to get a 1000w bulb, ballast and vented hood off there for 175. Not a bad deal and well worth it, then your not taking any chances. FYI a 1000 W bulb and ballast typically put off 3754 Btu/hr. So in order to evacuate that heat you will need to move air at different rates depending on outside air temps ( <50 degrees F needs <115cfm airflow.... if it is 60<t<70 degrees outside you will need 175-347 cfm. Those rates of airflow accross your bulb in a sealed reflector should eliminate the heat). cfm ratings are given on the fans you can buy. hope this helps. I know it will

Yes, I can tell already that the 4" exhaust fan is nowhere near enough ventilation.

Good thing that room is only a temp room, until the snow melts and I build my super shed.
