Check out these monsters!

Hi everyone,

This is my first grow and I thought it was time to make a grow journal, so here goes.

I started out with a 250w HPS and 6 clones I had bought in a grow shop, which I then put in 7 litre (1.5 gallon) pots.
I bought 'em on December 22nd and according to one or 2 pickets on them, they had been planted on November 11th.
The strains are : Nebula, Super Silver Haze, White Russian, White Widow, Hashberry and an AK47.

They were all topped and fimmed, had to LST the SSH and AK. I used crappy chemical nutes from a company called "Plagron", but switched over to Hesi TNT Complex. Now I gotta go find some blume nutes... I'm probably getting the Hesi stuff, they're a good brand.

2 days ago, I bought a 600w HPS and repotted all of them into 15 litre (3 gallon pots) to ready them for flowering.

I vegged them until last night, meaning they got just over 3 months of growth. As I type this, they are in their 30 hour dark period, transitioning into flowering.

There was a period of a few weeks where I was too lazy to take pictures, but you can still see the growth :)

I'll post pics of each plant individually and then the group photos will come hehe

These girls will be fricking monsters when they are done :bigjoint:

Don't post until you see the picture of the Afroduck!!

I replaced the 250w with a 600w. I think it should be enough for 6 lights. Obviously a 1000 watter would've been the best, but I'm not made of money and I couldn't possibly cool a bulb like that with my budget...

Anyway, they're good girls, they'll make it ;)

Well, I managed to replace the 250w with a 600w. I think it should be enough for 6 plants. Obviously a 1000 watter would've been the best of all, but I'm not made of money and I couldn't possibly cool a bulb like that with my budget...

sick shit man! REALLY sick! Flower is going to be amazing with them girls! I wish I could grow with HPS... I'm a CFLer...

If you don't mind me asking, how hot was the 250W hps? Was it hard to cool? I have a 10 cubic foot flower room with a 450 CFM inline fan for exhaust. Running 12 26W CFL's in there right now. Really been wanting to make the switch to HPS, but just don't know if my room could handel the temps..... Any input would be much MUCH appreciated!

+REP for the beautiful girls!

if you have 10 cubic feet you can run hps for sure. maybe not a very high wattage hps but a hps nonetheless haha

Well yea the room is 11.5"W by 48"L by 30"H so that's 9.583 cubic feet I believe. Would a 250W HPS be alright with a large exhaust fan you think?..

Thanks bro! +Rep right back at you ;)

To answer your question... The 250w, was very easy to cool. I had a single, very small clip fan for the whole grow "room" (as you can see in the pics) and it was doing the job pretty well. Don't get me wrong, those things heat up to 200 degrees celcius (392 farenheit), but the heat doesn't spread out that much.
I had my plants at about 2 inches away with no problems what so ever.

Now with the 600 watter, I have to keep them much farther away than that... I also bought an extra fan to cool it. The lamp is still hot as hell, including the area around it, but it's pretty stable. It stays around 27 celcius/80 farenheit, so no sweat.

I would definitely recommend that
you switch to HPS - it really is the lamp for all stages. Of course CFLs and Metal Halides have their good sides, but anyone who has tried all 3 will always tell you to go for the HPS. Only the rich bastards actually buy seperate lamps for different stages lol

In your case, you've also got an inline fan, so that will definitely help with cooling. (I on the other hand don't have one and still managed, so no worries).

Update on the girls : It's crazy how much they've grown in just one day. New sprouts eeevverrryywhheerreee :bigjoint: I really can't wait to see them start budding. Pretty sad that I have to chep em down one day, lol.

Hey Rich, thanks man! You fuckin rock! You just made up my mind. I figure if I can get a cool tube heat shouldn't be to much of a problem with a 250W HPS! Thanks again bro! (Can't +REP you anymore, won't let me, haha) kiss-ass

I'm subbed!

No problem man, glad I can help :D

250 is a good thing for the amount of space you have; not too much, not too little.

Just make sure you get the right kind of bulbs, for vegging and flowering (as you may already know they use different spectrums of light). Well, my 250w came with a flower spectrum bulb, which I used only for veg - pretty messed up lol, but I couldn't afford another bulb or anything. As for my 600 watter, I have no idea what kind of spectrum the bulb is, but I presume it's something for both stages so whatever.

A few kelvins off the spectrum won't hinder a plant's growth... Just let nature take its course :bigjoint:

Peace,

-Rich

P.S.

Going to check out your grows right now hehe

What kind of soil you growing with?
Keeping it organic ?
The cheapest stuff you can find. Unfortunately I'm not in the States, so I bought some soil from a company called "Plagron". They make nutes as well (not so good though).

I'm using Hesi TNT Complex. Or was at least.. Got to go and buy bloom nutes now.
