How safe is this site?

How safe is it to use this forum. Are IP addresses vulnerable? Does anyone know of anyone that has had problems directly related to this site or any other grower forums?

I am ofcourse of age and in a medical marijuana state with a script, but I still dont want the feds involved in my life in any more ways than usual.

Thanks all!

Hang out and read threads, you'll see kids, you'll see cops, you'll see people argueing, but you won't see anybody gettin busted because they are here. you will see a few get busted but it is because they were foolish, not because they were here

Welcome and have fun, it's a great place :bigjoint:

been here a year or so, the man hasn't noticed me or likely cared(small grows)
but if you're concerned about ip address, go through a proxy, shields your ip nicely, at least for likely issues
now if you're getting ready to post pics of your warehouse grow, more care is needed

I can tell you that my wife is an attorney and while she doesn't object to me posting here she does object to me posting pictures. While I generally think the cops have bigger fish to fry than most of the posters here, they won't throw back the fish that jumps in the boat. Saying you never "see" anyone get busted here reminds me of the story about the guy considering suicide so he asks others who have considered it what they came up with.

It's a forum open to everyone... The servers are being hosted in Atlanta Georgia atleast the Ips are registered there.. Alot of people are using
proxies, So.. That said I assume if a US provider they will provide any and all information if a warrant is served or possibly even asked to
(as long some type of compensation is achieved).. When I worked as an ISP Admin we gave any information asked for by the sheriff
department, you can whine and say thats unconstitutional well thats how it works. because quid pro quo.. Am not saying riu hosting/providers will do that..
But you gotta think if you are threatened and RIU is just a small part of your business well you will bend. Just be smart about it... You can imagine
if you are D.E.A agent you are watching the crap out of these forums and for good reason. But like the above poster said no one has reported to be busted
just by simply using this site. So.. You have to decide for yourself.

Thanks all! Everyone gets a little paranoid now and then. No warehouses... yet. Off topic a bit. About the guy considering suicide. I went to a pain management clinic once (hit by 4 cars in two yrs ( no it wasn't on purpose, and no I didnt have health insurance) and around the 400th question I almost died laughing.
The question read... "Have you ever committed suicide"

Im still laughing

I've never had an issue. When I used to be illegal, I always signed in on a VPN first, which I still do most times cuz I handle all my financial issues online. But heck, I never really did worry about it. The only thing I'd suggest is that, if you post photos, make sure you check the background for any "locational information" on them. I still get a chuckle from one poster in a very MJ-illegal state -- he/she posted a photo with their car and license plate in clear view cuz they wanted to share a shot of a nice snowstorm.

Some suggestions if you are really paranoid....
Use TOR, register an email with a proxy IP never check the website nor the email
from your IP. Make sure your DNS requests also go through the Proxy or TOR network. Make sure you don't save cookies, browser history or
slap it into your favorites.
Journals etc should be done and precompiled before posting them. Go through all pictures information etc make sure you do not give away
any information or images that could give away your location. Make sure all Data with the pics are erased, for example if you have your
camera programmed with your Location, name etc it will tag the pics with that info you can find info online on howto get rid of those tags.
Use Common Sense. Aswell Windows 7 has Bitlocker, I suggest encrypting all your data with Bitlocker on a SD Card or USB stick... Bitlocker
encryption is pretty good and they are not gonna backdoor it unless its vital to the investigation(costs money).
Ya am paranoid, and guess what.. I prefer it that way, because anyone who says dont be paranoid is out to get you. We live in an oppressed society
don't think for a minute that you are safe until it is fully legalized at the federal level. I know alot of people will disagree with me but
thats their right...

proxy servers are the way to go if you're 'noid.

get info on them and read read read up because if you do it wrong you're gonna be stuck with a 56kish connection.

the best way to deter cops is to never let anybody know about or see your grow, keeping it cash, and keeping it quiet. keeping it quiet means paying all of your bills on time (electric, water, car, student loans, you name it, just pay it), not getting thrown in jail for public intoxication or DUI... stuff like that..... better be safe than have a cop show up at the house because of a bogus parole violation or some other bullshit, or even worse, a nosey creditor without any restraint about walking in you're yard to catch you off guard.....

I already have some of those safe-guards in place. We think alike Vasioplunk. For all the teckies out there another question. Isn't using a mac just generally safer to begin with? I have never had nor worried about a virus.... ever. I got on a friends pc and contracted a virus for him though. Not dogging PC's at all, I just thought they were a little loose with security. Maybe windows 7 fixed all that?

MAC or Windows doesn't really matter.. Here is the problem...

Lets say you are running a legit copy of osx or windows 7 its registered in your name and it has internet connection
besides the Proxy you are using. Well the site could issue out a cookie to grab your info this is easily done and
with FLASH or Java they can grab your computer name and various other info about your computer and even possibly
finding your real IP...
How do i mitigate this. I run pirate copies in vmware with an private IP that only has access to the proxy... So when am
done I shut down the vmware machine and it resets back to the restore point. Everything is erased back to the restore. There
is no personal data on the machine, the ip can't be routed to the net etc etc.
note if you use TOR make sure you exclude single hops :P

You are not any safer from your IP being traced if you are using a Mac. Even if you go through a proxy there are logs that could be obtained through a federal subpoena which will still point back to your ISP and eventually your IP. If you spoof your IP using one of the many applications that is probably the closest you can get to private but routers may log suscpicous packets and lead back to you using IP traceback technology.

All that being said someone (LE) would have to be looking really closely or be working with the hosting company that is running the proxy service in order to obtain records.

I like your approach using VM's Vasio, the fact is it isn't against the law to discuss and view information about growing marijuana and I doubt there is a squad grabbing IP's and investigating them but I guess you never know... :)

The only people who can connect the exit point and entry point of a TOR network(remember you go in with SSL so data is encrypted)
is the NSA... Do a packet dump on tor traffic and check it out.... Its like Tunneled Traffic with SSL :) so they can see TOR traffic, but they don't know where you are going or what you are sending...
