Clone problems (pics attaced) HELP = +++ REP

I am at my wits end here with my cloning situation. The last 2 batches of clones I have taken have all died on me. Some of them would get black at the tips of the leaves and rot the leaf. So I figured it was too moist that made me buy a mini thermometer to put inside my dome and it was 99% humidity. Now I have that problem under control. It usually is 75%-80% humidity and 80 degrees, but now I am having some weird problem where the stem that I dipped in cloning gel gets expanded and turns white as u will see in the pics. Hopefully someone will know what this is because I just took a 8 new cuttings today. I think it may have to do with the cloning gel so I took 4 with gel and 4 with out gel to see what will happen.

...man, make you a homemade ezcloner. Use straight tap water that is dechlorinized, no rooting hormones, no chemicals....Simple Tap Water, ph @ 6.0, keep temp around 70F, cut your clones from the lower part of the plant ....and in 7 - 10 days you should have like my pic below....everytime, 100% success rate.:bigjoint:

i feel for you man.
one thing that could have happend is if you dipped all the plants into the same bottle you can carry dieses from plant to plant.

those cuttings look fine to me. that white part of the stem looks like a callous, which preceeds roots. i've never used cloning gel so the size of that particular callous may be gel specific, but i think you'll find you have roots within the next week or so. honestly some strains can take up to three weeks to root.

experimentation (your gel vs. no gel) is always helpful, but i think you're on the right track. as long as your leaves stay green and soft, you'll have roots eventually. promise.

i quit using domes and such and just went with half filled cups of soil covered with saran wrap and I am now 100%. There are many ways and I have just had issues with the rockwool cubes and domes with heating matts. this works fine for germinating but for me cloning has become easier to just put the same cutting in half filled cups and spray them before covering. I put in the grow room indirectly under the light and they root within 1-2 weeks. I was having to attend to them too much in the domes, checking for rotted leaves and trimming them off and such. Good luck you can also try to remove the dome for few hours to allow more air flow.

you have any directions or plans or anything if someone wanted to make one of those cloners themselves?

I agree with trying a batch without using the gel as a test, however after 8 days I would expect more root growth than that regardless of the gel, or even inspite of it.

RE the OP: Im presuming youre doing the usual 45 degree cut under water, scrape the bottom half inch lightly, maybe a small split up the middle from the bottom, always ensuring no air gets inside the cuts?

Using a sterile and razor sharp blade, and fresh cloning gel (having not been dipped in on prior attempts)? Have you pre soaked your rockwool in pHd water, and then expelled all excess water (you can check this against a weight that has been posted many times, give it a search)?

What light cycle are they on? What surface temp is the dome sitting on?

If you look at these things, you'll spot any human error. Otherwise just leave them be, maybe its just a very hard strain to clone and takes a long time.

RE the ezcloner: Theyre a great system, but not necessary, and it has its own inherrent problems. Rockwool and a humidity dome is basic and works very well if you do it right (which isnt complicated)

Mate mine do that and they often look nearly dead for the first couple of weeks, but there is nothing wrong with what your doing just have patience. roots will grow before leaves and the basal swelling is a sign that they will be fine! If you are worried, try getting twice as many clones as you need and grow them out.. that gives you plenty of lee-way to see the many stages at stages through the first few weeks. and experiment different ways of caring for them and see what happens. feeding. clone food no clone food etc etc

Ive done all this and it really helped
any ??'s just ask mate

yes 45 degrees (not under water tho), scraping the tip just a bit(first time for this tho) maybe u r right and i just need to leave them (I usually get frustrated after about 2 weeks with no roots and get rid of them. But right now its about 72% and 82 degrees but one of the cuttings started to lean away from the light I guess it was too much light so i cut of one of the fixtures for now. I did build an ez cloner but to didnt work for me either (i have the wrong size pvc pipe.

Ya know, I just noticed this. And can't believe anybody else hasn't yet. But maybe if you put the clones under 6500K CFL's (for veg growth) instead of 2700K CFL's (for flowering) you'll have better luck. Ya dig?

That looks fine to me...first they grow a "lump" then roots start to shoot out...takes me longer to root clones in rockwool than in a "light" soil using the gel. Lats batch I did took 11 days to root properly using powder and rockwool and 13-14 days using rockwool and gel and 4-5 days using gel and soil. I will never root any clones in rockwool again...

:peace:
