Tap water how does it effect your plants

I HAVE CONCERN ABOUT MY TAP WATER AND HOW ITS EFFECTING MY PLANT,MY TAP WATER HAVES CHLORAMINE WHICH IS AMMONIA/CHLORINE MIX TOGETHER WHICH IS A DISINFECTANT.WHAT THE PROS/CONS OPINION AND FACTS ARE ABOUT USING THIS TYPE OF WATER WITH ORGANIC AND SYNTHETIC NUTRIENTS.THE CONCERN? MY CONCERN IS, WILL IT PREVENT MACROS,MICROS UPTAKE TO THE PLANT IF SO CAN YOU EXPLAIN HOW.REASON WHY I WROTE THIS TREAD WELL,I DONT WANT TO WATSE A $100 BUCKS ON A REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEN IF I DONT HAVE TO.ANY REPLYS AND RESPONSES WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED​

Hey dude,

Tap water is not all that for your plants. Don't get me wrong water is water but if your going to use tap water leave it out for 24/48 hours for the chlorine to evaporate then use it to water your plants. Hope this helps.

good point now will that work for chloramine will the chloramine evaporate

I think the cloramine stays in the water and is not dissapaited when left out. I guess the the cloramines will kill beneficial bacterias and stuff right? I don't know if my water has choramines in it I use my tap water and my results are good. I will invest in r/o in the near future.

can you find out for me and whats the ppms of your tap mines are at 170ppm which I didnt think it was bad

chloramine doesnt evaporate, i use my water straight out of the tap on hydro and soil, unless organic soil, i use it will pure blend pro in hydro without any ill effects and im pretty sure mine is above 170ppm.

I'm using ffof thats organic right also organic solution will the chloramine affect the organic solution and soil

sorry I don't have a ec/ppm meter. I drink the water so I give it to my plants and the ph is perfect.

Im pretty sure its just as bad as chlorine, you should be able to call the water company and find out, other wise get a R/O machine or buy gallons of distilled water from walmart for like $.80

No, it won't.

Just get some of that chlorine killer that they sell in pet shops for fish. ~$6/bottle and it just takes 1 drop/gallon.

Works just fine and way mo cheepa than any RO system.

As others said, chloramine does not de-gas. Chloramine has been in use since the early 1900's and has never been shown to have an adverse effect on plants. It will kill some weaker members of the soil bacterial colony, but they recover fast, as in minutes or hours. Maybe the worst thing about chloramine water is that it comes out of the tap usually around pH of 8.0. But, if you leave your water out at night, that basicity will draw in CO2 from the atmosphere. CO2 dissolved in water forms carbonic acid which will neutralize that. But again, people have been watering all manner of plants for decades with it..right out of the tap.

One thing to be aware of, too: many chloramine water systems will add free chlorine on top of it if they're on a surface water source. Reason is, during high runoff periods (like right now), the water has a lot more pathogens in it, so they hedge their bets with some good ol' chlorine.

now hold up I almost order that ro system you mean to tell me that all i need to do,to get that bull crap out of my water and anyway not to be out the subject but, what the h@%#! we been drinking in the usa I dont think our water is good for us but thats another topic i'll continue to observe my ph ,ppms etc and get an final observation.

You could give it a shot, it only cost ~$6-7 for a 250ml bottle and that's a LOT of drops @ 1 drop/gallon.

From what I've noticed, fish are WAY more sensitive to chlorine and chloramine than any pot plant and it works well for them ............

it's not that easy though as stated in the FAQs the use of pet store chloramine killers can make the substrate too salin...saline = salty. Now does this mean you would not be able to flush out these salts because the water is causing the salt buildup? That's why I haven't used mine.
