I'm going to be setting up 4 5X5 tables to fill a 10 by 10 canopy, and am trying to decide on the light setup. My research shows a 600w hps puts out 95,000 lumens compared to 140,000 watts from a 1000w. So what i'm wondering is will six 600w producing 570,000 lumens work rather than 4 1000w producing only 560,000 lumens?

Not too sure from personal exp. But I do know that the 600's will allow you to get closer to the plants

yes 600's are also more efficient as you have mentioned, they put out more lumens per watt.
Its also true that you can get the 600's closer and therefore better results. But a 1000 will always produce fatter buds than a 600. But 2 600's will produce more than a 1000, or a 1200w if it existed for that matter.

most def. i would recomend going with 600s because as yall have stated they are the most efficient of all the hid lights.
also closer without burning = better more dense buds.
also 600 watts are perfect for the size tables you want.

yeah, so 3x3= 9 sqft, so 3x3 area should in theory have an approx. 450w light. ( 9X50) a 600 watter usually cover 4x4 or so.
Remember 50w per sqft is aiming a bit low, but a good rule of thumb to go by.

Our 1000w ballast went out one week into flower (4 months ago). We borrowed a 600w from a friend and ran the entire cycle with it. The buds were probably 30-40% smaller than normal. We bought a new 1000w ballast the next day.
600w may be more efficient, as far as lumens per watt ... but I measure yield per plant!

well nobody ever said a single 600 watter would replace a single 1000 watter, of course you got less yield... if you had replaced it with 2 600w then your results would have some relevance
