CaL's half-a-day drying and curing method

First of all let me tell you guys that "fast drying" is NEVER RECOMENDED unless ur outta green ($$$ or :leaf::leaf::leaf:). But since many of us just cant wait sometimes, for different reasons, I decided to share w u guys my experience in fast drying

So I've read a few threads bout drying ur buds the fastest way and still get a good smoke outta ur bud. Microwave, ballast-drying, air exhaust drying, drying on foil using a lighter (LOL), oven drying...etc. I've tried most of them but with poor results, of course, but heres a method I tried few times that works really really well for a "fast dry". I call it: CaL's half-a-day drying and curing method.

Heres what u need: 1 oven 1 air tight glass jar. Now I bet some of u thinking: "He's gonna put buds in the jar and then in the oven"? Havent tried that 1...maybe a good idea?! No no no...heres how CaL's drying and curing method works.

1. Select the nug for drying and curing, cut it off and strip it of the largest foliage.

2. Cut the nug in pieces big as a normal (human) thumbnail.

3. Put ur green on a piece of foil in the oven, oven set at 104-122F (max), 40-50C. I can do this w my oven, if u cant...too bad, jk, try using as low heat as u can but dry it for shorter periods of time in the oven, I guess. Let sit for 1 hour.

4. Take ur pieces out from the oven and trim them.

5. Put in an air tight glass jar for 1 hour.

6. Repeat "oven process" but this time let ur "nuggies" stay in the oven for 45-50mins.

7. Back in the jar w them pop corns for 1 hour.

8. Repeat oven process but this time only for 30-40 mins.

9. Back in the jar.

10. Repeat drying(oven) and curing(glass jar) process till ur bud is dry to smoke.

Using this method is not near the results u get from drying and curing "properly", but this way I got smooth smoking buds w less chlorophyll taste and more "weed" taste and more of the smell and taste is there for you to enjoy, and most important of all, it seems to make the loss of THC minimal...I really mean minimal.

For proper harvesting, drying and curing read theese excellent threads on the topic.

Feel free to try CaL's half-a-day drying and curing method and smoke the result urself.

Thanks +rep bro

It isn't that I have so much I can carelessly throw some away. It's that I have a lot and a few nugs in the oven isn't a large loss. I could wait of course, but I don't want to.

Thanks again

Ur welcome! If u only have like 5-6 hours till u wanna smoke, after 2 times in oven and 2 times in jar, cut in small pieces an let sit in oven for bout 5-15mins and its dry enough to smoke.

smells funny, has a little of that funny smell to the taste that is just from the oven. The taste of the bud not too bad and it is definitely a rippin Sativa.. :)

¿Anybody tried drying buds in a clothes dryer? I usually put the nugget in a paper bag and throw it in there for two separate 30 min. turns and comes out very smokeable. But 'm gonna try the jar thing between "loads"...hehe... quick drying sucks but we always need a try, huh?

That clothes drying thingy fer sure is gonna take away most flavours, all that air moving is gonna "blow it out". They get pretty hot or u have 1 only blowing air? At least doing the "curing" process inbetween will keep more flavours and scents. I seen seasoned growers dry their outdoors crops outside just in the shade in enviroments where there are 40-50C in the shade, thats how I thought when I came up w CaL's half-a-day drying and curing method using the oven at that same temperature  if they can, so can I. Results turn out outstanding for a "fast dry".

I favorite method is using my toaster oven, setting it to about 150 and sitting by chopped up buds ON TOP of the toaster oven, after about an hour or 2 of turning them ever 15-20 min i have smokable buds with pretty decent flavor, i bet adding the jar part would help a little.

Not only a little, it helps a lot, but then again it will add 6-10hours to the process! Its worth the wait! ;) When you open the jar it smells great + buds are moist again, lets them dry from the inside and out...makes for a much more even "fast dry" wich I think contribute to the better flavour and less THC loss :weed:

Well mine are pretty much smokable now anyway. hehe
Have a nice weekend w them nugs ;)

Well, as I said, I put them in the dryer inside a paper bag which was inside a little cardboard box... five 30 min intervals (dryer-jar-dryer-jar-dryer) and the results were pretty decent. At least i got the buzz and some flavor... and thejoint stayed lit!

1. Set oven to lowest temp mine is 170 (150-200 is good), but keep in mind that THC vaporizes at 230 degrees
2. Turn off oven, I personally let it air out a few seconds
3. Cut nugs up, smaller will dry quicker but will not taste as good
4. Place nugs in clean brown bag
5. Place in oven and let sit for an hour or so
6. Take it out and let the nugs cool down
7. Place in sealed container, plastic is not as good as glass
8. Place in fridge until wet again
9. Repeat process until completely dry.

Just remember OVEN OFF

I don't like smoking cold nugs either

If u turn off the oven when its 105F it will be cooled down in 10mins bro...keep the oven on at a low temperature, and why put nugs in the fridge...I dont see the point in doing that unless for long term storage...even then I dont use the fridge...doesnt have any effect when "fast drying"...plz explain why u do the different steps of ur processes drying method or did u just make that one up and havent tried it? Why in a bag in the oven...I dont really see the point in that either...unless u have a lamp in the oven and wants the bud to stay in darkness, or if u have a "hot air oven"?! Again I can't imagine it making any difference when fast drying...I might be wrong, so plz explain WHY you do it "ur" way, if u know why?! :weed:

I dry my buds in my laundry room because my furnace is in there and the temps are around 90 degrees Fahrenheit and it is very very dry. It works really well and does not compromise taste and potency. And it seriously only takes a day and a half to dry them up to a perfect dryness. Check out some pics of a plant I just harvested yesterday.

If you have a laundry room or a room with a furnace in it, experiment!

my oven's lowest temp setting in 170, sometimes I start at 200 and it air out etc.
the reason for the brown bag is it gives the water droplets something to attach to when they evaporate then the dry, hot oven keeps the bag dry
Oven is off so no fire worries.
I sweat the bud in the fridge. Just speeds up the process.

If your not sure if bud, grow or bought, is dry, throw it into the fridge and it will sweat quickly or it won't.

Thx for clearing that up =) Pretty smart to "air" it out if u cant set it at a lower temp...use a thermometer to see how long it takes for the oven to get to desired temp. I actually threw in a thermometer in my oven and the lowest temp i can get i actually 35C (95F) when oven is on...LOL! ;) Since I can have my oven at such low temp ima try to dry them in the glas jars...iono how that will turn out, we'll see...now I just made me a red curry w pork, some vegetables and rice...gonna enjoy this meal then ima try drying in the glass jar in the oven

Had all my bud drying in the bathroom with the vent closed because it will get to 90 in there if the rest of the house is 70. Wanted it to cure right, 3 days still wet and it began to rain out so I opened the heater vent. 1 day later I rolled a joint and it was perfect but I got lucky because 90 will dry your buds quick. Mine were still a little wet inside, dryer then I had planned. Lucky I think my wife turned the heater down

It was my first and I chopped manageable sections making handles for each bud site with stem, trimmed leafs from buds as close as possible, and hung them on string. I also tried laying some in screen, which I moved to the string. Now I am smoking them this is my favorite part :eyesmoke:
