grafting

I have done alot of strange and unusual things with plants. But please give me your 2 cents worth. I am having problems with all the blue varieties. I was thinking about using root stock from another variety in order to grow the blue varieties a little easier. Grafting the blue to something a little hardier seems like the right idea. What do you all think about this?

Thanks,

Can clones be grafted to a freshly harvested plant's root system? Or would you need the tall stems and leaves for light gathering? Basically what I'm asking is if the clones have enough leaves on their own to catch light if they were grafted to a living thick stem that already had a massive root ball. I know for tree's they just cut one tree in half and attach a different species directly on top.

No you need to have most of the leaves of the scion to be trimmed off. Also main stem splices leave a weak and damaged portion that tends to snap off if the plant is moved.
