:roll:So where I live, it doesent decrease to 12 hrs daylight until around sept 1st... and we get frost approx october 15th... My question is... do the plants need exactly 12 hrs to start flowering?..or will the gradual decrease in daylight hours be enough to commence flowering early enough to finish? (assuming 8 weeks of flowering) thanks in advance

In some case i would say yes the gradual decrease may trigger flower. But to be safe you could force flower the end of July. Good Luck

but how do you force flowering if its outdoors
We use contractor garbage bags that are black and figure out when the sun rises and hits the plant, then 12 hrs later put that back on and take it off again in the morning when it hits it again..... Pretty self explanitory and also feeding a slight dose of flower nutes will help stimulate this along.... slowly increase your nutes as usual and then when the light becomes normal 12 12 in septemeber just let nature do its work!
I know its a process but without doing it you can expect to get half of a normal harvest!:bigjoint:

Yea sounds like it could be a real bitch if your grow is a nice distance away and you have to work.

It would be a real bitch, especially if you are a guerrilla grower:bigjoint:

Best thing to do is pick a strain that finishes flowering quickest and go from there. If you want that Sativia high better buy some bulbs... Lol Peace~~~Dude

I tried to find some early finishing strains that are also pretty mold resistant.
This is what im doing this summer.
I just purchased 4 single seeds from marijuana-seeds-canada.com
Im from ontario btw
1x Fruity Chronic Juice - Feminized for $14.37 each
1x Frisian Dew - Feminized for $14.24 each
1x LSD - Feminized for $12.50 each
1x Northern Light x Big Bud - Feminized for $17.17 each

Im going to veg for about 6-8 weeks and then clone them put them out hopefully end of may depending on the weather.

I found this on Barney's seeds website:

Outdoors

Most cannabis plants cultivated in the Northern Hemisphere begin to flower by late July. The plants are harvested from October to November.
In much of the North and high-altitude areas, many varieties will not have time to complete flowering before fall frosts. To force the plants to flower earlier, give them longer night periods. If the plants are in containers, you can simply move them into a darkened area each evening.

Plants growing in the ground can be covered with an opaque tarpaulin, black sheet plastic, or double or triple-layers black plastic trash bags. Take advantage of any natural shading because direct sunlight is difficult to screen completely. For instance, if the plants are naturally shaded in the morning hours, cover the plants each evening or night. The next morning you uncover the plants at about eight to nine o'clock. Continue the treatment each day until all the plants are showing flowers. This usually takes two weeks at most, is the plants are well developed (about four months old). For this reason, where the season starts late, it is best to start the plants indoors or in cold frames and transplant outdoors when the weather is mild. This in effect lengthens the local growing season and gives the plants another month or two to develop.

Outdoor growers should always plant several varieties, because some may naturally flower early, even in the northern-most parts of the country. By planting several varieties, many of you will be able to find or develop an early-maturing variety after a season or two. This, of course, is an important point, because it eliminates the need for long-night treatments.

Thanks everyone. The only prob is, im a gorilla grower and i cant be there everyday to cover the plants.

If flowering starts in late July in most parts of the northern hemisphere, like Alexonfire said, Ive got approx 10 weeks (Aug 1-Oct 15)of flowering time before frost ruins my crop. This would be enough time for most indicas to finish.....thats if flowering actually does kick in late July.

Anyone know for sure:?:

hey man the early plants dont need 12-12 to start flowering thats an indoor thing. what triggers the plant to flower is the days getting shorter. there is a name for this type of plant but i cant think right now. my growing conditions are probly similiar to you. i get early flowering seeds and and dont usualy have problems. the plants will naturaly start flowering when the days get shorter its natures way of telling them to reproduce. if you start your plants indoors now they will be nice and mature around june( and they will be in full flower by july) this will help when the equinox happens that will trigger them to flower. you can grow some good plants by october when the weather gets shitty. if you gradualy decreased the time of your lights indoors the same thing would happen. by switching them 12-12 it speeds the process up and makes em flower quicker. grow some plants outdoors you have lots of choices. pick something that says its done by end sept becouse the times are usualy off anyhow youll harvest good by oct 15th. good luck.

Also I'm a northernish grower mine started flowing around mid august and it was alright had a few flower around 1st of august as well hope this helps :)

Agree 100%. Big lush dark green treez:leaf: Is molding a problem with the "trashbag technique"? I suspose if any excess water was shaken off it wouldn't be an issue. Anyone have any input? Don't mean to hyjack your thread :bigjoint:
