I don't think there is anything about dinner per se, but spending time together is important and dinner seems like the last outpost of that.I was just wondering if those who post here think that having family meals together is important. If so, why? If not, why not?
So, are you inviting me for dinner? If so, I'd better bring my taster along. My family has no lack of communication, what about yours?I was just wondering if those who post here think that having family meals together is important. If so, why? If not, why not?
I made some chili the other day that would knock your socks off, Med ... but you're not worthy. So, are you inviting me for dinner? If so, I'd better bring my taster along. My family has no lack of communication, what about yours?
Oh yeah! That's the best way to eat good food. Let the wife cook, she's happy, we eat, I'm happy, she's happy... Life is good.I was just wondering if those who post here think that having family meals together is important. If so, why? If not, why not?
I'm pretty sure in your "unbiased" mind, all these problems are somehow the fault of the lefties, eh? You are one warped dude. Not just important, but important in ways we don't even know. Though I suppose if a wise man were to think about it long enough, he could come up with a whole host of reasons.
His essay however, would no doubt be the subject of Left wing scrutiny who would insist on the need for studies and proof. Many people today, are not capable of wrapping their mind around issues such as these. It is as if there is an intuition; an insight into the abstract and intangible areas of life that some people have and others lack.
When I think of dinner time, I think of families relating to each other. I think of parents showing an interest in their children, in what is going on in the lives of their children, in hearing about their children's happiness or sorrow, their desires and their aspirations. It gives parents an opportunity to talk to their children so they may know what may require their attention and it gives children exposure to their primary role models. It also provides structure which is very important in a child's development and it promotes the notion that people and not things are what is truly important in life. I'm sure there are many things I am missing.
Knowledge of this type was once taken for granted. It was something that adults just knew - they might not be able to explain it, but they simply knew it by intuition. Children on the other hand had no such intuition - the very definition of being children. What we have now, are a lot of grown up children. They for some reason, never develop the intuition of generations of the past.
Instead, they dismiss out of hand every belief that came before them and every thing they themselves can not immediately explain and support with studies gleaned from the internet. Just as children of all generations have always seen family dinner time as nothing more than an unnecessary intrusion on their play time, so too does the modern Progressive.
God forbid you would take the opportunity to teach your grand daughters the meaning of self restraint and respect for others - namely their elders. That would be horrible. We do have a dinner table, but it is only big enough for the grandchildren. Believe me, we communicate plenty in this house, some good and some not so good. That's what one gets when communicating with family. It would be nice if it was all cumbaya, but it aint. My grandaughters fight a lot, 8-10, I never thought girls were this tough, they are pretty tough alright. BTW, I would never trust an adversaries chili. I make some mean enchiladas, better than most mexican restaurants.

Wow! What a truly disturbed take you have on the past. So evidently, everyone beat their wives in the 50s? And this is less common now you say?Why dont you just come out and admit you would love to go back to 1955 where men could beat their wives and blacks couldnt eat in the same restaurants as whites? Or maybe you're still upset about the whole slave issue, who knows what your problem is.
Wow, you are one America-hating scumbag aren't you? You do realize there were some things going on in our past other than slavery, gender bias and racial disparity? Honor, integrity, personal responsibility, fidelity, family devotion and national pride... a few things that are quite obviously missing from the up and coming generation. Why dont you just come out and admit you would love to go back to 1955 where men could beat their wives and blacks couldnt eat in the same restaurants as whites? It was largely the baby boomer generation and the Liberal thinkers of the 60s & 70s that were responsible for the destruction of our values. Unfortunately, they were successful enough to change the way most people think and force even those who know better to accept political correctness. Medicine man claims to be over 70 and sees no point in stopping his grand daughters from fighting at the dinner table. So, I guess age in not always an indication of decency and common sense. Plus, some bought into the Liberal sewer mentality and others did not.So when did it all turn bad? 25 year olds now obviously weren't taught this stuff by thier parents who would be what? 45ish.
If the 45 year olds didn't teach thier kids does that mean they were not taught this stuff? If not that puts in on the 45 of now's parents.
Just kinda trying to take this back to the root, I mean there were 15 year olds who were pharoh's.
Or did people just stop learning?
That war was being waged since the beginning of time,,,It Peaked then. and changed things for the better get a grip and evolve instead of bitching about your misrable lifeIt was largely the baby boomer generation and the Liberal thinkers of the 60s & 70s that were responsible for the destruction of our values.
