thanks Flojo. i'm not worried about steeping to long, just know it's easy to go overboard trying to kill these little fucks. why use a whole pack when i cig will do?

+rep for the thread

pinkus, steeping that long, you most likely allowed the carcinogens in the cigarettes to break down and become a part of the mixture.. as you know cigarette companies add thousands of chemicals such as embalming fluid, arsenic, and god knows what else to the mix.. this can definitely kill ANYTHING

this is why you use organic tobacco, and steep it just long enough to draw out the nicotine, and not all the other crapola..

so how do you prevent the mites to begin with? are there any beneficial insects?
You can prevent them without beneficial insects. Don't bring in plants from outside, if you do spray them first. CHeck all new clones coming into the room. Filter the air being brought into your room. Change your clothes and shoes before you go into your grow room.

THere are all kinds of different ways to prevent the mites. And preventing them is much easier than getting rid of them.

i always spray floramite every cycle right before they shoot out hairs (about a week or two into flowering) and i've NEVER had any mites using this method...

i think of it like this : if you miss one single application of floramite, then you will get mites, if you stick to scheduled applications you wont get mites. simple.

also i place "no pest strips" in the corners of my room. and keep it cleaner than your grandmas house.

The "mite eradicator" burned up my leaves....not as much on the older plants..Or the young plants that are only under flourescents..its possible that the plants may have not been dry when the 600w MH lights came back on..But I highly recommend that you rinse your plants thoroughly after applying this stuff. My leaves are burnt pretty good. The plants are not ruined but many leaves are ruined however.I am going to buy No_pest strips tomorrow to give them a try. I've been through everything..most things only work mediocre, guess I havent tried Avid yet.

Anyway be aware that mite eradicator can burn your leaves particularly if lamps are close and leaves haven't yet dried..I recommend raising lamps a foot or two for a day or so.

Best luck I have had with a homemade solution was made with Garlic Oil....Garlic works well for repelling I think killing too..And I also remove many of the leaves that are badly infested....you have to stay on top of it and be committed to kicking their asses. Best to do while they are young plants...I dont spray for mites while in flower...If I get signs of mites at that point I just ride it out and hope they dont do too much damage though they can get out of hand pretty quick. If you are already foliar feeding in flower this will help keep their population back a bit...Or spraying plants with regular water to keep the humidity up cuz they like it dry and warm. Water also immobilizes them for a bit and interrupts their cycles a bit...that way you can get a better handle on them...

Hope that helps someone...

ME TOO! FUCK! Burnt all the pistils on my plant! I'm quite pissed off about this.

DO NOT USE #2 during flowering!!! It WILL ruin your plant :-( FUCK!
Bullshit, and bullshit to everyone else that has tried that homemade spider mite eradicator 'as direct' by the direction of Flojo and says it fucks up their plant. 'Use as directed', works, well.

I have avid btw, which works but not when the weed has flowered already, so when i used the shit the mites just moved over to the healthiest (chem. free) 5 week old flowering plant and got to business. So, what options do i have at this point? Have some chemy buds, or let them punk bitches eat my shit. So fuck it, i aint growing this shit for them, imma either kill the plant or kill them. And guess what the concoction does? It kills them bitches, ALL OF THEM end of story.

As far as burning the plant- hey you dumb ass idiot, fucking follow some goddamn directions and you wont fuck them up. What i did was rap them bitches up from the top of the soil down with some clear rap, sprayed them down until they were dripping ( i didnt even have to spray underneath the leaves). Let them chill in the mix n shit, im not sure if the 20min marination process is necessary- i let some of them for about 20 and some were about 45 because of the time it took me to transfer out a tub full of plants and transfer in the rest. I showered them bitches on kinda hot with the nozzle on misty/spray (lol, sounds like a porn name- wait, stay on topic) for like 10-15mins. This was in the middle of the dark/sleepy time for the plants (about 6hrs before they turned back on), but you have to make sure to do that so the lights dont come back on and burn them.

I checked on them 1 day after putting the concoction on and not one mother fuckin Borg is on my shit- i had the red, and double black spotted white Borg on my bitches, not no more tho. I aint gonna shit you guys tho, yes, some of the fan leaves did get a little yellow, but who gives a shit? Who the fuck smokes leaves? Its called 'bud'- not 'leaves'.

UPDATE: Also found another home made recipe on IC Mag that I will test out on my isolated plant tomorrow to see what kind of damage it does to the scragglers and eggs that are still present. Read a little further down and there are 2 more recipies that were tried as well as results

1/4 cup Baking Soda
1/2 cup Apple Cider vinegar
1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
2 drops dish detergent
1/4 Teaspoon Epsom Salts

Take a cup of very hot water and desolve the epsom salts, take rest of ingredients and place in a clean 2 liter bottle and let work out. Add epsom solution. Add water to fill to 48ozs(3/4 full).Shake well.

TO USE: Cover soil/medium with plastic, with lights off mist plant all over, especialy under leaves,
Wait 20 mins, then spritz off with clean fresh water shaking as much water off plant as you can.
The fresh water spritz rinse will remove the solution along with the desolved remains of the mites and their eggs.

Have fun with your new "Mite Eradicator"

Note by MrFixit: Water plants 1/2 hour before spraying. This will help keep your plants from absorbing the spray.

This solution has been tested and used as directed will not burn plants, the rinse is very important though as it removes the spent solution before it can concentrate and burn the plant. It also removes most of the dead mites and eggs so you don't end up smoking them.

The formula can be diluted further,to 1 liter and it will still kill the mites but isn't as effective at dissolving and removing the mite parts.
Since removing the mite debris is desirable,I recommend the stronger solution, just remember to rinse and shake.
This formula is alkaline(about 7.8-8) so please remember to rinse.

Mite irradication is absolutely assured and guaranteed if used as directed.

I've come across this stuff called eco sense... and it gets rid of spider mites in a pretty quic fashionable way.. i use the cocentrated liquid to dilute in water and et voila..shut shoot the plants under side and over couple times a day and i got rid of a small spider mite infestation, but i also disinfected the wholes rooms too.. so that does help. but Seirously eco sense seems to fuck those spider mites good. ON that word. Peace

get some ladybugs, close them up w/your plant so they wont fly away, then open up in a couple days and spidermites will be gone:weed:

I brought in 2 spotted spider mites on some clones and I tried everything under the sun to rid these bastards

SNS-217, NEEM, DR DOOM FOGGERS, AVID and many others, these bugs just don't want to die and stay gone.

SMK worked the best for me by far, plus its natural which is def a bonus

Just google smk spider mite killer, I believe its spidermitekiller.net

Good Luck!

well it sounds like you have them pinned down if you are not seeing any more spots, and if you still catch em around i would step up the potency on the tea these last couple of applications. the spider mite has a crazy ability to adapt to different countermeasures. you just want to keep them at bay, get through the harvest and then clean the shit outta everything.

also the yellowing leaves at the bottom is normal in flower.. as they get larger, the leaves at the bottom of the canopy are used for energy when they do not recieve a bunch of light.. now if you are losing lots of leaves that could be a bad thing, but 1 or 2 per plant is perfectly normal.

also the winged insects are fungus gnats.. let your soil dry out really well before you water again because they lay eggs in the moist soil. also go online and search for some double death nematodes for about 25 dollars. add them to your soil and in a matter of days you will have no more gnats.

good luck!

this is a very good thread and i'll bet you will find this is your winged insect and the cause of your yellowing

Yo you forgot to say American Spirit cigarette brand is the best because it is additive free. Or you can just go buy e-liquid (liquid nicotine), I used both and the aphids are all dead

this is awesome info Thanks for putting this up.
Ok, so I am writing this in an attempt to cover the bases on treatments and cures for our most common enemy the spider mite AKA the borg.

Spider mites are tricky little creatures in the sense that they can sneak in undetected, and build up a considerable army before being noticed. they can track there way in on people, plants, animals, wind, etc.

The problem is that these little buggers have the uncanny ability to
A. reproduce
B. stunt and eat the hell out of your babies
C. become immune to different treatments and chemicals that we throw at them.

Now it seems that the key to beating the borg is continued treatments with multiple different kinds of chemicals and oils.. I am going to outline the various treatment methods ..

at the first sign of spider mites you should take action, and it is advisable to take precautions even if you do not have any that you can see.

If you have clones the best thing to do is get a bucket of WARM water and make a combination of neem oil and safer soap or additive free dish washing soap. You want the water to be warm so that the neem oil will break apart and mix throughout the water. DO NOT dunk your plants in until the water has safely come back to room temperature.

The safer soap will not only act as a wetting agent to help coat the plant but also weakens the exoskeletons of the lil buggers. The neem oil will make them immobile so they cannot move and suffocate them.

Dunking is the most effective method while they are smaller because it coats everything from the ground up, but this is a very effective spray as long as you dont have super mites.. we will get to that later.

You should spray every three days, the undersides of the leaves or dunk every three days depending on size. This is the most eco friendly and safest method of treatment. This is what you should try first.

Next which for some works wonders for others not so much is pepper spray.. Many people will put one tablespoon of cayanne pepper in a 9 part water 1 part additive free dishwashing soap to make a pepper spray, or you can buy some at the store called hot pepper wax.

This works pretty well as an added weapon to your brigade to help combat the lil buggers especially if you have the red spider mites. I do not know exactly why this works but I would guess it is because it gives them indigestion and they shit themselves to death.. (kidding)

then we have diatomaceous earth which is basically like fossil dust which is very jagged. it cuts the spider mites apart as they crawl across it and dehydrates them. I have personally never used it but I hear it is really good for when your plants are in veg. You do not want to use it during flower because the particles will stick to the bud and can cut up your throat and lungs if you smoke it! you will want to mix this with some form of wetting agent to help it stick to the babies! This is also a good preventative measure because it can be put on top of the soil at the base of your plants and kill any pests trying to crawl up on your kiddos!

next is pyrethium bombs. These are the foggers you can buy that vary from .0012 percent to commercial grade 4.0 percent. You can use these up until about week 4 of flowering then its not really safe to use. These bombs usually work pretty well after a couple of foggings but recently I had a group of mites that were not even phased by the 4.0 percent bomb... You have to get out for a few hours and turn of ventilation when using these so they can do their job. you DO NOT want to breathe this shit it is no bueno.

then there is floromite and avid. Never used these either but these are mite specific insecticides and can be quite costly. they kill mites in all stages of growth and are safe to use in early flowering. many people swear by these products while others say mites are becoming immune to these formulas as well!

lastly we have nicotine tea which was brought to my attention by Seamaiden. I took 15g of organic tobacco, steeped in hot water over night, added a little bit of safer soap and had fantastic results! killed all but a few of the . I dont know if it kills the eggs as well I will know that in a few days. I used this after using almost all of the above and works the best because I had the super strong genetically altered two spotted mites. you can use it at least 4 weeks into flower and supposedly longer without any harm. do not mix it too strong because nicotine is toxic to all living organisms!

That is about all for now I will update later as I get more info and feel free to chime in with your experiences with these little bastards!

also knowing what kind of mite you are fighting is a good start. if you have a microscope and you can see if it is the red mite or the two spotted mite (has two black or dark colored spots on either side of its abdomen) you will know what kind of a fight you are in for. As i stated earlier the red mites are pretty easy to get rid of especially when using neem oil and cayenne pepper spray.. the two spotted mite on the other hand needs constant battling with many different approaches. the latter are the ones that grow immune to different treatments

that's a good idea. I like this thread very much, but I see it is old. If you see this thanks, I'd plus rep you but I do not know how.
actually spider mites only like live plants, not dead organic material.. when you chop em down, their life force ceases, forcing the mites to leave and find a new host. obciously if they are hanging upside down they cant make it to the bottom, so naturally they have to go up and make their way across.. when i have mites i put stickyfoot on either side of the lines where they connect to whatever they are hanging on and ill end up with a bunch of em stuck... the last thing you want is the fucks gettin down and making their way to your mommies!

liquid_ladybug_16oz__76262_zoom.jpgabout 15-20$ at local hydro shop spray it every 3 days for a week or so and be done with it. Can spray with lights on or off no crazy chems in it pretty much peppermint oil. I also had some clones come in with mites sprayed this for about a week and haven't seen a single one in a month.

When are you people going to learn that throwing chemicals at, on or around lifes problems is NOT the answer? ;)
I suppose when I release my new patent pending method of dealing with mites! And nope, not saying anymore till it hits the market! :)
