Starting in cups outside vs. Just starting in a 3 gal. Pot?

I am starting everything outside and finishing outside. It's a guillera grow. Does it make a difference if I start in small red party cups then move to a 3 gal. Pot or just put the seeds straight up in the 3 gal after germinating?
Also, I am planning on having 2-5 ladies per pot. What size pot should I get? If I just do 1-2 per pot then what size?
Kinda new to growing.

One plant per pot or your asking for trouble! not to mention lower yields

the plants will fight for nutes and the roots will tangle, the weaker plants will suffer

seedlings in 3 gallon pots is overwatering waiting to happen, yes you can doit but not the best way to go
