remove jiffy pellet netting?

Hi, first post from a very new newbie. just transplanted seedlings into 4 gallon containers of miraclegro+perlite. i didn't remove jiffy pellet netting before transplanting. should i have?

also, frequency/amount for watering the babies? i've got a ghetto grow in my closet, 2'x2'x6' more or less. 4 cfls and small fan.

To answer your question, NO you do need to remove netting

your looking at a screw up by putting seedlings in 4 gallon pots, it's an invitation to overwater

also puttin em in MG can cause several problems for a new grower

Agreed you have to be careful with the MG. Look into Pro Mix for clean ph buffered fert free mix. MG can burn plants that have not had any nutes at all or young ones. Be careful with it, may not be the best to start with.

i'd read the earlier posts on mg but used it anyhow cos i'd just bought a giant bag...dumb. i'll spring for the pro-mix and transplant today and leave the jiffy netting on. THANKS!

couldn't find the Pro-Mix in my town. bought Organic Black Gold Potting Mix instead. Thanks.

i don't like putting my small plants in hugh pots.
first, its a waste of soil if it a male \ weak plant.
second, it takes way more space.
third, you'll need to give it way more water, which means much more nutrients. I find it wasteful.
fourth, the pot will take a few weeks (to me usually 2.5 weeks) until it dries out. for the first few days the plant would suffer from overwatering.

I start in party cups and move on either to 1L pots or 7L pots.
If I plan on using my 25L pots I use a 7L first.
