for an indoor project with less than 12 plants using soil (organic) how bad can the smell get? I'm thinking about using white widow, thinking it's gonna be pretty stinky.

I'm wanting to try using a grow tent with an inline blower fan and venting the exhaust to a carbon filter. But I don't have a vent to put the exhaust through, like a laundy vent it's clear across the apartmet. so I'm thinking ill vent the carbon filter into the outside of the grow tent in the closet.

What do you think?

it will be stinky. i have 1 plant that is not even in flower yet and i can already smell it when i walk in the room. your carbon filter will do alot, but it will work alot better venting outside.

Just run it through a carbon scrubber you should be fine, if it gets really bad you might need to buy a bigger fan [Higher CFMS] and a Can Filter. And maybe pick a different strain white widow is legit but probably too strong if youre worrying about smell, get NL 5 if you want potency without the dead skunk in your room smell.

I've been looking online at carbon scrubbers, so they're different than can filters, whats the difference? what's better? Is NL 5 a good strain, I'm looking for a good stony high with cerebral qualities also. Something to get my mind going but something to help knock me out with minimal smell while alive.

Northern Lights is a quick flowering plant. It has a low-scent. It produces trichome covered buds as you would expect. Additionally it is short, bushy, and reputedly quite hardy. It's a little easier than white widow. Widow will produce excellent bud no doubt, but it will probably be very stinky, also it's apparently pretty finicky when it comes to nutrients so you walk a fine line.


As to the carbon scrubber vs can filter, no they both use activated carbon I believe, but they have alot more and are probably put together alittle better than say a DIY scrubber. They also have CFM ratings on them so its easier to gauge how big a can you actually need.

Yeah I'm thinking I'll use a can filter and if needed add supplemental home made scrubbers.

I was thinking white widow was a bit finicky like you said. I'm thinking NL or Afghan Kush. Any other strains yall'd recomend? I am a bit afraid about the smell I'm wondering if i should pick a less stinky strain or if the can filter will be good enough.

Afgan Kush has a powerful Sweet/Fruity/Skunky smell. It's one of the finest smelling ganja plants you will ever smell imo, but I would not recommend it if you are worried about stinking up your place. It produces quite abit of odor, and it takes a mighty big carbon filter to filter out all those odor particles, trust me I know. If you can swing the cost of the carbon filter I would say go for it though.

I have tried and can reccommend G-13 as a low-odor strain. Smells like cooking herbs/spices when its growing, the smell is very light and doesn't permeate through walls easily like skunky smells do.

I'm concerned about the smell but also want the flexibility of using most strains I want to. But G13 sounds pretty good. I'm really a sativa fan though but I'm hoping I'll fall in love with this stuff and not really care about which strain to use. I just want it to blow my mind.

I just recently built my grow room in the basement, and I have about 15 or so plants. the room is seal, but when I walk thru the front door I get a huge whiff of it. It smells of raw marijuana plants. Bad thing is, is that they are only bagseed aka Reggie. I have Sative Spirit, skunk mix, and trainwreck, germinating now. cant wait. I just plan on getting a inline duct fan and routing it straight outside and hope that works.

U guys think if I use a really good quality/ right size carbon filter that the odor will be an issue? I will use a grow tent. And I will probably use an ozone generator, and deodorizers, candles when I'm home, etc, plus I'm thinking about using G13 since it's known for being less stinky (just afraid g13 won't compare to other strains) I think it'll be okay but not sure, I'm only really afraid about the yearly walkthrough.

I either gotta destroy em all or hide em all some how outside the unit when the yearly walkthrough is near.
