Hello,
I am a new grower. And just haveing a hard time identifying my problem with my mother plant. My bottom leaves are yellowing from the bottom up. Not at an alarming rate or anything but I am a little concerned. Also my leaves are curling under as you see in the pic, not the sun leaves, but the leaves on the side branches like where you would clone. This is what I have: an advantage 400w system balice built in. A 3x4 foot closet. The light is about 15-18 inches from the plant. Temp 80 degrees tops but ave 77 degrees, night time as low as 60 degrees. The PH balance for my water is between 6.5 and 6.3. For soil I am using a half fox farms and half happy frog. I attached the photo of the soil. For nutrients I am useing, bigfoot nutrient solution, grandma enggys F-1 solution, and liquid karma that I have posted the picture of the solutions. I have been reading around and I have not checked the PH in the soil so that mabye it. But I did read today that if your growing with soil you want your PH to be between 5.6 and 5.8. Any advice would be good I appreciate anyones time.

Well, first of all. Half your soil is pH balanced, the other half isn't. Half your soil has an array of organic nutrients, as does the other, you CAN accomplish nutrient burn from organic fertilizers I'm told, but have no idea. I burned my plant in soil using chemical fertilizers, but my question is, why did you add additional fertilizer? or did you? If your plants weren't showing signs of deficencies, then you shouldn't have added a thing... if you thought they were deficient, they were probably burned, seeing as how you need to kinda let a plant get of some age before exposing it to nutrients... it's like a baby... (just feed milk for the first while (in this case, water)).. then upgrade slowly to more substantial shit.. if i were you i'd have grown those plants in a soilless mix with no nutes at first, then transplanted them into the foxfarm shit once they were showing the first hint of deficiency. but that's me :| stop ferting your soil!

Thanks for your input. I transplanted into 3 gallon buckets. and 2 weeks later I started to see yellowing on the 1st set of sun leafs. So I assumed that all the nut had been used up i was growing great. I didnt add that I water 250ml everyday when the light is on. When you say fertalzer you mean the bigfoot solution right? And what do you mean by soilless mix. Sorry amature time lol. again thanks for your reply.

thanks

The biggest mistake most amateur growers make is to assume that the yellowing present is a deficiency, when it is really burn. Then, to correct the issue, they add more nutrients, thus making the problem worse. And yes, I mean the bigfoot, but if your plants were really young when they were put into that soil, they may have been burned from it, I'm not sure if that soil would burn right off the bat, I've never used it, possible, in my opinion unlikely, but perhaps. That's why soil kinda blows, what you put into the soil is a bitch to get out.. and getting it out can cause trauma. Plan your next endeavor to be hydro. You can control every detail of the fertilizer level and the pH, all the while comparing your ratios to other growers around the world, maybe even copying their ratios... thus replicating their results.

what is the opproximate start up cost for a hydroponic set up. because I am on A budget.I am paying 70 -75 dollars an 1/8. So I feel justified to grow Ill be saving like $2200 a month. but cant affored much right now. So soil seems more practical now, but I may be wrong. Im sure the long run It will be easier to maintane. do you think that I should just use fox farms from now on.So soiless mix is what?
Thanks

Deep Water Culture is the cheapest (and amazing, don't think because it's cheap it doesn't rock... The only method that's more advanced (to common folk) is Aeroponics, which runs into far too risky clogging issues)

So.

Walmart
$4 - 18 Gallon Rubbermaid tub, lid included
$10 - Air pump
$3 - Air pump tubes/hosing
$1 - Air stones
$1 - CD/DVD case holder (perfect net pot)
After tax, you spent $20

(don't forget 6x6inch rockwool cubes, $3 a piece at your hydro shop.. go to google, type "Hydroponics near City, ST", browse the list that comes up, look on the map, find the one closest to you, call them and ask if they have rockwool cubes, they will say yes, then go get them)

You fill the tub with water, connect tubing to pump, then connect air stones to tubing, plug pump into wall, throw the stones into the tub.. BUBBLES

You cut out the top of the lid so a net pot can fit in there, then place the plant into the net pot (the plant of course is in a rockwool cube, fits perfectly)

The roots will grow into the oxygenated water and thrive. You can setup 2 plants into one tub.

If you want to be able to steer the direction of your plant, this is what you should do :| it's the cheapest hydroponic application available.. i will gladly elaborate on the steps if you choose this method, i will help you with every single issue. seriously. I hate to see someone suffer from soil, I've done it, I learned from my mistake.

I personally would take them out of the light for 24 to 36 hours. Stop feeding them or watering them. They look WAY over watered.
Just my 2 cents.
And yes if you have nutrients in your soil already you shouldn't have to add more this early in their growth.
pic of clones after 10 days the 2 started drooping yesterday

and then decide whether to switch or not.
I've never done hydro so i don't have a clue about it.

Thanks
