Ok the title says it all, it has nothing to do on how well you can roll either (although that may be another reason they burn fast)
I don't have any picture evidence cuz im stoned and didn't think about it but if you don't believe me you can try it yourself.. any moron can do it.
Well my buddy sparked the idea and I did the experiments to prove his theory so I cant take full credit (but my buddy isnt a RUI member).
Think about building a fire, you don't start by lighting the tip of the log and let it burn downwards, but light it at the bottem and let it work its way up the log.
So using this principle we thought well wouldnt that apply to the way you hold a joint as well?
Using a joint, a blunt, and a cigarette, I held it with the lit end upwards to find that a lot less smoke comes off the end opposed to holding the lit end towards the ground, where it seemed to let off twice as much smoke. And the same thing applied to hitting it while it was facing up or down, when the lit end was facing down it seemed like i got a bigger hit off of my joint.
As well as that during the cigarette i stopped hitting it for periods of time, the first time when i held the lit end up and stopped taking drags it went out on me after a couple minutes but it seemed to just keep burning when i held it down and stopped taking drags.
And as a final test to check if i could have messed up my tests by smoking the test items while testing i also lit two almost identically sized incense sticks and the slightly larger one which had the tip pointed downwards burned faster then the smaller one with the burning tip pointed upwards
All my evidence has supported the idea that holding your joints facing upwards while you arent hitting it makes the joint burn slower, thus wasting less of your bud.
